Fishing story

I had a 2 hour window to go fishing at the beach the other day (Fri evening).
The golf cart was low on fuel so I had to swing by the marina for a gallon. Then I went to the pier and there was no one out there. The wind sucked...or blew rather, so I packed it up after about 15 mins and went to the bridge.
So there I is fishing from the bridge where the wind is a little more manageable. I've got the one side to myself and a couple starts fishing behind me on The Doors side.
Then I sees an alligator slide into the water near my fishing hole. I yell over to the couple who I learned are locals "Y'all ever seen an alligator in this creek?" They so, no, not in their 3 years here on the island.
I says, there's one over here right meow. So the lady comes over next to me to observe the alligator. About that time, my line takes off and I set the hook. This ain't no pinfish. It starts running across the creek and I know I got something good. Then it charges under the bridge and I has concern I could lose it. During this incredible battle between the middle aged man and the unknown fish, the alligator begins to get closer and closer. I finally spot the fish and say "I gots a nice sheepshead over here!" But that #### alligator is closing in fast. I am fishing with 10 lb test which is sufficient for the smaller ones and maybe a small trout or redfish, but it taint made for lifting a large sheepshead 20 ft out of the water. I have the fish mostly subdued, but the alligator is 2 ft away so I lifts the fish out of the water hoping it will hold and he makes it about 4 ft when the line pops. There goes the fish. Poot. There was only going to be 1 winner I suppose. The fish, the gator, or the me. It turned out to be the fish.

Wind howls, pier’s empty, Alligator eyes my catch— Line snaps, fish swims free.

They need to be culled. Especially bull sharks.
Lots of reports of great whites now in Florida, too--close to shore. That will become a problem.
