That day is here. That day which so many programs only dream of. That day which will be remembered for generations. THAT day has been a long time coming. That day is today.
For ages Clemson has been a laughing stock. A program than consistently managed to win big games against very good teams then inexplicably lose to terrible teams a few weeks later. It became known as C********g (For more on that click here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6BgEa1K9eXI )
I remember this. I remember losing to Maryland in 2009. Five failures against South Carolina. Those were hard. Then things started changing. We became...good. We stopped losing to bad teams and won the games we were supposed to win. But that was just it. We were good, not great. We were still losing to Florida State every year. As long as we kept losing to them, we would never get to the big stage. The Battle for the Atlantic.
Slowly but surely, Clemson football was on the rise. Auburn and LSU in 2012. Georgia and Ohio State in 2013-14. Then someone came. Deshaun Watson, #1 quarterback recruit in his class, arrived at Clemson as an early enrollee. In 2014, we went to Tallahassee. We gave Florida State a run for their money...but would eventually fall to the Seminoles 23-17 in overtime. We might've lost to FSU that night, but we'd found a quarterback. Watson won the starting job the next week and broke record after record for true freshmen. 6 TD passes in his first ever start. He would go down with a torn ACL at Georgia Tech but managed to come back and thrown touchdown after touchdown against SCAR. We finally ended that horrid streak against the coots. All was good in the universe again. A month later Clemson obliterated traditional powerhouse Oklahoma & Bob Stoops 40-6 in Orlando. This got the attention of recruits and Clemson managed to pull in another top 5 class loaded with talent.
Clemson claimed the nation's #1 defense most of the year in 2014. However, defense was the greatest concern for the Tigers in 2015 as we would lose nine starters to the NFL. Defensive Coordinator Brent Venables worked wonders and used the talent and experience of the backup players to assemble another top ten defense (7th overall).
People knew that we had all the talent needed to be great. Most, including myself, just thought it'd be another year because of the repairs needed on defense. Venables proved us wrong.
Clemson opened the season 3-0 before hosting Notre Dame. We won. We defeated the media darling. This is when we first heard BYOG - Bring Your Own Guts - from Dabo. And what a sight it was. With a hurricane raging around him, the great Dabo Swinney thanked God while the fans on the field went bazurk. All we had to do now was beat Florida State. Beat Florida State. Easier said than done. With the game tied 13-13 in the 4th, it was a tough fight. Clemson managed to strike a field goal before stopping the Noles on a critical 4th and 1. Soon thereafter Clemson struck the final blow and defeated the FSU Criminoles 23-13. About time. After that win, It was a smooth ride to the ACC Championship where we controlled #10 UNC and left with the dub.
Clemson was 13-0. Undefeated. Ranked #1 and Heading to the Orange Bowl, our third - and most significant- appearance in the last 5 years. The world doesn't like a winner and they gave us just a 32% chance to come out the victor. Again, we proved them wrong. Our opponent? Oklahoma. The same program we had beaten 40-6 the year before. They were back for revenge. We shut them down 37-17. Media "experts" said quote, "Forty One to Twenty Oklahoma embarrasses Clemson and the ACC goes home crying." Sounds like they need a new field of expertise. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=x8pVFE88vi0
In this game tonight, Clemson will be the underdog. That's how it always is. We have a chance to show the world that this is not "same old Clemson." We have a shot at the lovechild of E$ecPN. TAKE IT!! Whatever the outcome may be, I am #ALLIN
