SURPRISE, MOTHER@%#$ER!!!
Sep 27, 2020, 5:53 PM

Okay, I was expecting this to come in October, but here it is...and probably the first of several of these, seeing as how the opposition now has had four years to dig.
This is...uhm, large. On the level of "I dropped that nuclear bomb and it kinda, you know, went off."
The New York Times just published Trump's taxes. The results are not, uhm, good for Trump. To put it mildly.
Anyone curious why he didn't want these out in the open...well, you can stop wondering.

He's like every other real estate mogul. Writing off everything possible, doing every trick in the boko to avoid taxes, etc. And they're not as rich as they let on. We all knew that.
I honestly thought the records would never see the light of day. Odds are Trump is using the same techniques half the swamp he decries uses to avoid taxes. A full release would give away a lot of secrets many others from both sides of the aisle are using.

I gotta argue with you here.
Discovering Trump owes at least $300 million in taxes and as much as another $100 million to the IRS he must pay back in the next four years and likely can't isn't a "bombshell?" It means he's leveraged to the gills and drowning.
Yeah, I'll agree these kind of tactics are probably distressingly common...but Trump burns through money in real life as quickly as he ran up the deficit in the US, and that kind of puts paid to the idea he's some sort of financial genius.
He literally may be the least-successful "billionaire" - if he even is one! - in America.

Deficit and national debt is aquarely on Congress. That's their power and their job. I didn't blame Obama for the debt any more than GWB or Trump.
Trump owes $100 million? OK. Lord knows what Elon Musk owes. Jeff Bezos. Who knows. He fenagked zero taxes? So do most billionaires. Just nothing shocking. Shocking would be Russian collusion or illegal deductions accounting etc.

I’m not paying to read this. So he should be in jail? He committed crimes? What’s the gist? Anything different from any other large business? Anyway, glad you’re so excited. I could think of many about to bombshell all over themselves over this. Great company you keep. Hopefully it will lead you into that socialist utopia you crave.

It's not behind a paywall.
Clearly the Times wants this read. Which invites all manner of questions - where'd they get this, why now, how long have they been sitting on this, etc, etc...but what it basically says is this:
The president is losing money. A LOT of money. He's lost money in 10 of the 15 years they have records, has paid net zero in taxes a lot of years while living like a king...and oh, yeah, Trump Org could well get foreclosed on in the next four years.
Those are fairly massive allegations.

Also kudos on writing “why now?”...I assume...with a straight face.

Q,
I though one of the most impactful things was the disclosure of the foreign money and profits he has made since he became President. This is why there is an emoluments clause.

It certainly isn't going to help him.
I personally think the most impactful thing is that it basically proves he's a failure as a businessman despite the fact that he got $413 million from his dad. And despite that he apparently has $400+ million in personally guaranteed debt as well as another $100 million hanging over his head courtesy of the IRS. We already knew he'd lost more money than probably any other American in the decade prior...clearly his fortunes haven't improved any.
The idea that "Trump is good for American business" has always been his central narrative. You may hate him, a lot of Trump supporters say, but he's good for the economy and good for business.
The fact that his business empire is leveraged to the hilt and apparently teetering on collapse doesn't help that narrative any. It's a lie, like pretty much everything else that emerges from his mouth.

I know. It's fascinating to watch, though. They literally just found out he may not even be a billionaire and his financial empire could literally collapse while he's still in office if he's re-elected...and it's no biggie.
The whole point of a Cult of Personality, though, is that it's intimately tied to the idea the person they're following is a winner with superhuman abilities. When that illusion is shattered and their idol starts losing - as it appears Trump is about to, and large - and that he doesn't actually poop forth miracles by dint of sheer personal awesomeness and in fact has the same feet of clay as anyone else, the illusion is usually shattered...well, for most, anyhow.
He's a fraud. He's always been a fraud. But it won't be until after the fact most of those under his sway can actually see it.

At best, may have moderate impact on the 5-10% of overall voters who may legitimately be undecided. Hard to say who these voters could be at this point.

I think it goes deeper than that.
The man is a fraud who was propped up by his father to the tune of $413 million - not the "$100,000" he so often claims - and it turns out he's drowning in debt, on the verge of collapse, and hasn't paid a dime of taxes most years.
The denial reflex among Trumpists is ingrained, deep, and reflexive...but these facts cut his personal story to the bone.
Doubt is poison to a fraud...and this creates myriad doubts, even if his adherents won't admit it aloud.

is not whether Trump pays his taxes, but when our press becomes a propaganda machine.
There are certainly people who are in love with Trump.
I am determined to fight off the our cancel culture and group think as long as I can.
Next story will be available in the next 3-5 days.
I'm not a huge fan of Chris Wallace. I think he tries too hard. But the good thing about the upcoming debate is I believe Wallace will be equally tough on both candidates.

I mean, we all had a pretty good idea of why, but this serves as a sort of confirmation.
Like others have said though, if his cult didn't care about him misusing funds meant for kids with cancer and veterans, then the reason for his misusing those funds isn't going to matter to them either.

Has never considered reviewing his returns? Seriously?
I can't grasp why anyone's return should be in the 'public forum'. Let the freakin' authorities do their jobs...let lawmakers write sensible legislation.
But, letting media guide one's thoughts and decisions...with blind trust? Give a FB (not the pointy ball!).
Our gov't is acting like one big bunch or reality show contestants and we're the mindless public hanging onto our Nielsen ratings box!
We're reaping and sowing to beat the band. Wholly out of tune band, at that.

Seeing how Trump has not accepted the presidential salary and has donated it since he took office, I think he needs a new tax accountant for having to pay anything in 2016 and 2017. That's ridiculus! ??
BTW, what legit information does the NY Times have if they don't know some of the businesses that lost money? There are forms for losses and that information is included. I know for a fact. Just more stirring the pot with half truths. I guess Trump's the only person to have losses and use the IRS Tax Codes to his advantage.
I guess Hunter (or should I say Hoover) Biden sucked all the money he could out of Eastern Europe and China using his Father's VP influence. IMO a much worse crime.

I think it's a good map to where the bodies are buried.
Like I said, I know a lady at the Tallahassee Democrat uhm, well, let's say - that relationship actually goes clear back to high school - and she's sharp. She told me that there was Russian mob money all over Trump's Florida properties and that it undoubtedly extended to Trump's New York properties as well.
The real honeypot is probably at Mazars and Deutsche Bank but that's exactly what Cyrus Vance Junior - I still remember his dad, Gawds, I feel old - is digging for right now with SDNY.
His itemized deductions were never going to read: "RUSSIAN MONEY LAUNDERING"...but there's always a paper trail and when they start looking under rocks I think he's in dire trouble. Paul Manafort certainly was.

Okay. I myself am genuinely curious to see where this goes.
Vance is surely after something and Deutsche Bank has been central to this for a long time.
The truth always tends to come out...eventually.
