Because people take their Bias with them when they vote.
Clemson in the eyes of many should have won something like 56-3 vs. La Tech. We win that way and it's no question we stay where we were.
This isn't something that should bother people in September though! IT's going to change a ton by the time it matters.

Is this going to be another season where we clearly aren't an elite team, yet we have to listen to brain dead fans get upset when we aren't ranked as though we are? The reality is that based on the season so far, we are lucky to be ranked anywhere the top 10.

Yes. Yes it is most likely going to be that kind of season. However, we may end up being elite or near elite by seasons end.
