They're terrifically fast and fun, but I don't know if I'd call them exciting because you don't have the engine noise.
I bet you could find a used Kia Stinger GT2. Or this:

Buying new you might as well be setting a pile of cash on fire, but something with 20k-40k is a solid move. And you can find the faster models to be much more affordable.

I didn't learn anything, but I did take the class.
But for your question, google AI says:
The Tesla Model S Plaid is known for its incredible acceleration and high-speed stability, but its handling isn't necessarily as rewarding as a dedicated sports car, especially at the limit. However, it's surprisingly capable and well-behaved on the road, delivering a smooth and predictable experience.

I didn't learn anything useful. I also took some auto mechanics classes because I wanted to be a better race car driver. If you suck you suck. My racing career was short.

And the torque still makes the 5yo squeal. Outside of a motorcycle, ain't no better ratio of $$$ to acceleration than an EV.

Interesting detail about the Ecoboost vs GT.
1
May 13, 2025, 9:45 AM
|
|
The Mustang GT with the performance exhaust system goes 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds while the EcoBoost hits 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
Obviously we're comparing a twin turbo 4 cylinder to a naturally aspirated V8 and the Ecoboost is automatic only, but that's a negligible performance difference. 315 hp and 350 lb/ft of torque is really impressive from a 2.3 liter engine.

2025 Camry XSE AWD fully loaded may work. Fast? meh.

Plenty of tech. Get one brand new, fully loaded for like $40K. 513 miles on a $25 tank of gas. 230hp, awd is nice. The handling is on par with a sports car. I can drive it with a pointer finger at 100mph. Leather(ish) seats, heated and cooled. Android Auto. Also has assisted driving where it will start braking early for slower traffic ahead or cars slowing down, often seeing them long before you notice. This is a feature I have learned to appreciate. Backup cam had the overhead option to see parking space markers, etc. Cross traffic detection is great, even when parked between two massive jacked up $100K pickups with massive tires and LED lights, etc. it will detect cars before you can even see them on the backup cam.
The CVT is a gamechanger as well. It makes that 225hp feeel like a lot more. No gears, no overdrive, just steady, consistent acceleration from 0-80mph. Feels much like an electric car in that sense. It will go 20-40, 40-60, 60-80 with the same acceleration, no drop off in power.

It handles excellent on curves, better than my 1994 Camaro Z28.

Where it misses is on power though. Would be interesting to test it against the old Z28. 275hp vs 225, Camaro would have better acceleration, but the Camry would perform better on the curves.
SUSPENSION Independent MacPherson strut front suspension with stabilizer bar; multi-link rear suspension with stabilizer bar, sport-tuned shock absorbers and springs, and front strut tower bracing
I raced a porsche once in the mountains once. Thing would leave me in the curves, but I'd catch right back up with just a few straight stretches.
My old Camaro had my car beat in acceleration, no doubt. BUT....on curves, AND at high speed, my Camry is much better. Heck, the SCHP bought a bunch of Camaros the year I got mine, only to sell them because the aerodynamics were crap and a patrolman died in a pursuit in one. The tended to "float" above 80-85mph and I think Chevy redesigned the front end like a year later to fix this.

It passes better on two-lane roads than a 1994 Camaro Z28 with 50 more hp. No passing gear makes all the difference.
