I was born in '69, so WW2 far precedes my time, but I've always had an interest in it and, in spite of all the books I've read and movies I've seen and veterans I've met, it's still hard to believe that it really happened - that young men endured what they did and fought the way they fought.
Sadly, the veterans are fewer and fewer every day, so that link to that era is slipping away. I've found a couple of interesting playlists on Spotify, though, that are a great link back to that time:
Last, a great quote from General Eisenhower: "This operation is not being planned with any alternatives. This operation is planned as a victory, and that's the way it's going to be. We're going down there, and we're throwing everything we have into it, and we're going to make it a success." -- Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower
We cannot thank that generation enough for what they did, but we can remember it and make sure that the world never finds itself in that position again.
