Woe is me ..

On the porch as rain falls playing Miles Davis 'Kind of Blue' and some James Moody.
My wonderful Jeep was just towed from my driveway. I love that Jeep, but it would not start. In the old days would guess solenoid or loose wire to starter. These days it is some computer part not talking to another computer part. I hate computers in cars.
These days instead of a shade tree mechanic, one needs to be a shady nerd.
I feel kinda helpless with no car. I got my license at 14 and my first car in '63. I like this Jeep, hope they fix it quickly.

The other day I had a tire going flat so I replaced it with one off of another vehicle in my yard. It was a couple inches larger but I figured worst case I would have a pulling condition. Tried to drive it to town and couldn't get past about 25 every time I did, the rpms would die and go back to idle. The anti-skid evidently thought I was having problems and kept throttling me back. I had to go back and put on the leaky tire.

I have to laugh at that one. Some younger tnetters may think that is crazy, but I had a 49 Plymouth with a sticking solenoid (quite often) I had to carry a hammer to jump out and give the starter a whack and then it would start. Also had a friend with a 52 chevy with the same problem/fix. Another fix was to park so you could roll down a hill for a jump start.

The solenoid went bad on my 63 Beetle and I had no $. Pop showed me how to short it. I could start it as quick with a screw driver as before with a key.
The VW was so light I could also push it myself, jump in and hit the clutch.

Moved on from Miles. Anytime I get too much into cold beer, find myself either playing 'The Shirelles' or 'The Statlers'.
So many were great in the "groups". Diana made the big money, but if I have to choose going with Shirley Owens.

I think I will run that track through the aryas, wait, that would be awful. Miles hits these cans the wrong way. . I mean if I had one complaint.

Most older JAZZ and CLASSICAL tunes sound great on cans as the bass is acoustic.

absolutely. These babies separate the double bass completely from the rest of the track, Miles just causes a lot of fatigue on these, he really gets up there when he uses his mute.

Kind of Blue is arguably the best album of all time, period.

There can never be a "best", but it is fun to think on the many candidates. 'TIME OUT' by Brubeck might be my fav JAZZ album. I guess seeing him in the Clemson Field House influences my judgement.

Unlike many of the era, Brubeck was a straight arrow as to drug abuse. The group on this album are Joe Morello, Eugene Wright, and Paul Desmond. If you get time, google those guys, they are individually exceptional. Desmond was an addict. Brubeck was a friend.
I am a fan of Jazz sax players as who is not? My favorite might be Chet Baker or Charlie Parker, but Desmond is just as good.

I more often listen to music from this time period for the reasons you mentioned above, Herbie Hancock is another interesting cat. I will also listen to odd and lost-in-time funk and soul artists of the period like Darondo, the Meters, and Cymande. The puppies do honest work of honest recordings, and that is what I like most about them.
