Game rewatch - opened my eyes

The BIGGEST take (and it may be surprising). Do not include Will Shipley in the passing game at all.
Others:
The play calling was good.
WRs had a lot of drops.
Cade did not play that bad.
The OL is actually pretty good.
The game WAS weird, Dabo is right. We were the better team.

Especially all the first down runs up the middle and passes out to the perimeter in the first half. Rewatching it was a bit different.
We are a dink and dunk team what reminds me of the old Redskins back in the 80s. Our running game got going but its not going to work with the new play clock rules and you scoring nothing on 4-5 drives you should have scored on.

This is an excellent observation. The days of teams beating other teams with depth and strength are done. How long will it take the coaches to figure this out? With the running clock you CANNOT fall behind by double digits. Comebacks will rarely happen.

at least until we get the gosh darn system up and running like we all saw at TCU last year, i.e.NOT “dink and dunk”.

Duke had the better QB

He slipped a sack and scored a TD.
The 3rd quarter we owned them. Weird quarter.
Watching the game again I was right there with Dabo. It was a crazy game.
The biggest surprise to me was realizing the play calling was good. We just need WRs who can catch.
I would bench Turner.

Maybe where we get involved with the portal. I hate to say this. But if we have a player that is not performing and is not earning his scholarship, maybe it is time to pull a scholarship and try someone in the portal if available. Players that are not giving their all know right now that Coach Dabo is not likely to take their scholarship away. I'm no expert but maybe an example or two could have a positive affect?? Just don't know but is it worth a try? I'm not saying to pull scholarships on players that are giving their 110% but are just struggling right now but "yes" to those who just don't have in mind doing their best.

Crazy stuff happens in UPSETS. It doesn’t mean Duke would win another game if we played 10 more. That is if no flukes happen again.
No way was Duke a better team than us. It’s called an upset. They happen every Saturday.

The offense, other than the WR'a, was pretty ok. The diarrhea bit was the defense, namely LB with a dash of not enough push up the middle of the DL remains my concern.

Everything g about that game sucked to be paying a coach how many millions to coach a team & then loose line that. I have no words. Dabo needs to learn from his mistakes or be gone.

And you may want to take a closer look at the real data. In the last 3 years we have the 4th most P5 wins in the country. Even following the 2 “down” years (top 15), we’re still 5th on P5 wins. Then of course you look at Dabo over his tenure. Even with the exaggerations of sucking, Dabo is statistically the 2nd best coach in the game, behind only Nick Saban.
Dabo’s salary is just fine.

For the most part, I do agree. Cade did make some bad decisions. OL did ok on most plays. We're certainly the better team.
I can't say whether the plays called were good, or Cade and wr were not reading the D or what.
For example, the long pass across the field to Cole, that he dropped. Never should have gone to that read, he's very fortunate that wasn't a pick 6. A good team fsu, ND etc picks that ball off. That's just one example.
And yes bbo, the D was a shock.

You don’t have a head coach. Clemson fans wake up & smell the roses & Dabo needs to go. He has no coaching ability & he wants to make boys in to men so go somwhere else & make $400, 000 instead of 2 million. He’s got all your Clemson fans fooled & y’all still live him after what he’s done.

I'm probably not qualified to really discuss your assessment except for one...at that specific time in Durham, NC, the better team was Duke. 28-7. Maybe from a broad perspective, Clemson is better but in the moment when it counted, Duke was better. I hate it as much as anyone but it is what it is....

This was excellent analysis done in a very professional manner. He kept alluding to the fact that our play designs and schemes were bad, which I totally agree. He agreed that WR's do not know how to get open and continue to run into coverage when there were already open. Poor WR coaching and poor QB decisions were the 2 things that stuck out, along with the total absence of any attempt to go deep to stretch the D. You might miss but you gotta try so they know you will go deep.

I agree with the analysis.... especially the part about the WRs running into coverage. One of the best qualities with Hunter Renfrow was his recognition of an open area and he tried to get right in the middle of it and face the QB.
We were told before the season started that one of the main things Riley was going to do was design routes that allowed WRs to find green grass. That is not happening at all.
Everything I saw in the pre-season chalk board videos with Riley eplaced an emphasis on recognizing the coverage and finding the open space. We might have recognized the coverage, but we certainly didn't utilize the open areas as we should.
We either have untalented WRs or poor coaches - maybe both.
Riley's offense can work very well - even with our lack of talent at WR - but the WRs need to get with the program and do what they're supposed to do to be successful.

I can’t understand why all OCs aren’t trying to design plays so guys will be open. What’s wrong with these guys? I don’t think Riley understands football, like. At all. He just got lucky carrying little ol TCU to the national championship. The dude has no clue, and the players did it all on their own.
I suggest we fire Riley before the game today. Let CJ call running plays all day until we hire an OC with a scheme that actually works. This crap is for the birds, right?!

is that CK, in HS was more talented than everyone else, and he could rely on his talent more. At this level, the oppo coaching is better, the talent is way better and he hasn't quite adjusted and learned to trust the guys around him to do their jobs. If he can make the adjustments 0 and we'll see- he has a chance to be really good. But.....
THE RECEIVERS HAVE TO CATCH THE BALL

I agree that Cade hasn't quite adjusted to the opposition talent, but I can't blame him for not trusting the guys around him. As you said, the receivers need to catch the ball - but first, they need to find green grass to give Cade a solid target.

I do not know your background or knowledge, but our left side of the Offensive line was getting beat all night. If this was the way the Duke coach designed it or just our players, they were the weak point. That is the blind side of our QB and should be the best blocking side. This week should be a rout and I hope that next week will be. Learn from our shortfalls and GO TIGERS!!!

Indeed.
The OL was not bad last year(except the Tenn and ND game) its the easy target for casual fans that are use to playing video games and getting 8 seconds in the pocket.
Cade was ok had moments of wow! and moments of huh?
Wrs well they were a non factor.

Thanks for your thoughts on the rewatch. I was hoping we won the second time around. Good game today. BTW I appreciate your posts. When I was 13 my Dad had a friend's key to the Playboy Clubs. We were in Miami on vacation and he took me to the P Club. I will never forget it.
