Duh…. We ditched the roids after getting busted in the playoff (osterine) it helps with recovery, heals joints and ligaments and helps training intensity and recovery time. It’s a really versatile steroid, you can use it to bulk or cut. I’m half joking about our team using roids, but it is interesting that the timeline for when the injuries started as you cited the year after we got busted. For all your steroid questions please feel free to fire away.

Go compare our numbers versus others in the top 10. Now also factor in the transfers we lost versus the transfers gained. Lastly, go count our # scholarships on roster this year.

Hope that DJ throwing a pick six in the scrimmage is not an omen of what is to come.... I want him to have a stellar year and move into the pros. Not looking forward to the fallout that will come (like the KB/ Trevor situation) if he struggles and CK replaces him.

Had a great spring?, but in one of the first true game situation in the spring with LB playing corner, he throws a pick six. I want him to do well as anybody but I am beginning to wonder if he is just not a gameday QB.

It’s not like it was a planned undersigning. After the All-in Cookout, we were sitting pretty with Shaw, Walker, and the IMG trio. There’s five right there that NO ONE guessed we would whiff on. Throw in a couple we lost due to BV leaving, and we had a bit of a mess (and of course the portal). We had to take some “filler under the radar/developmental type guys” to fill key parts of the roster. I believe we are sitting at 77 scholarship players, which is about 5-6 below where we like to be. I’m glad they didn’t just go out and offer these just to fill them. Then it would be a 4-year obligation and we wouldn’t be able to load up with the ‘23 class.

Or, you realize it's a spring scrimmage
Mar 31, 2022, 12:10 PM
|
|
A spring where you had 10+ guys held out to recover from off season surgeries and such, and that for a spring scrimmage you divide the one roster in to two teams. And that in the spring guys who could probably play during the regular season are held out for precautionary reasons, because, you know, it's spring time

Maybe you replied to the wrong message?
The quality of the spring game is not the point being made. The topic is the lack of depth because our roster is short of full capacity. We did not replace bodies at the same clip we lost them, and have 8 open scholarships as a result. As usual, a handful of those will go to walk-ons. But this is a perfect type of situation to use the portal and get guys with a year or two of eligibility in here. Not necessarily to start or to take someone else's spot...to add depth.

due to offseason injury recoveries and the summer enrollees not being on campus yet. Maybe we should account for that. And I believe we're looking to bring in a transfer interior lineman. We have been. There will be many more options in the portal after spring practices.
I'm just not wringing my hands in March

Understood, but the bottom line is that we are 8 players short of 85 scholarships. Even if everyone was healthy and enrolled. I'm hoping, as clearly others are, too, that we fill some of that gap with transfers after spring practice. It would have been ideal to have some of them in BEFORE spring practice so they start to learn the playbook and the first few stages of install, and could provide depth to make the practices and scrimmages more useful.

look at immediate PT? That's been my point for months. Only other place I see is LB where we're a tad thin, but the frontline guys are immensely talented. Guys by and large aren't transferring in to be cheerleaders

I’m not expecting anyone to come in and get immediate playing time. I’m talking about depth. There are plenty of people in the portal that haven’t found a landing spot who might be happy to have a scholarship at Clemson.

How is celebrating adding “warm bodies” via the portal more

more exciting than filling out a signing class with project level players?
I just don’t see the value of taking players from the portal who are not good enough to actually help us win just to fill out the 85 scholarships.
The depth we used to brag about ... where we had really good players biding their time as back-ups ... is a thing of the past. Those guys are leaving for pre-determined destinations where they’ve been told they will start immediately.
Most of the other guys in the portal who haven’t been “recruited” into the portal, are just drifting along hoping some school might need them.
For example ... there is a former 4-star dual threat QB available right now ... and if we weren’t already thoroughly familiar with Taisun P, our fans would be begging Dabo to go get him!!

contribute immediately then our roster is probably set. We may even lose some more after the spring.
My point is we don’t need to add bench warmers from the portal and try to say we’re adding “depth”. Just adding guys who have failed elsewhere to our roster because of some perceived need for 85 is not worth doing.
If we should find an immediate “two-deep worthy” OL or LB, then sure ... go out and try to get them. Not because we don’t have 85, but because those are positions of need and those guys might help us win a game.
The problem is that immediate contributors just aren’t out there waiting to be found. They’ve already been identified, recruited, and made their decision before they entered the portal.

Dear striperfan, your post here (and the answer to the responder below for this post) reminds me of how much I appreciate adult supervision.
Very glad that there are others out there (in addition to my wife ... in case she's poking around on TNet) that think like adults.

You are new to football if you have never heard of the 85 scholarship rule. Get off the Portal idea because it is too late for that except for maybe 1 or 2 players if we are short of 85.

Every time we have made a championship run, we had very few key injuries. They kill us, especially when our recruiting numbers are down. Less margin and fewer backups!

Also found this quote from another article regarding RB depth in the spring:
Keith Adams Jr., a three-star recruit who signed a month ago, will get a chance to learn from those guys in the fall. Until then, there are names you'll hear in the spring that you might not hear again this year.
"My man, Kevin McNeal and Tristen Rigby, and Wise Segars and Domonique Thomas, who's a young kid that he's from Union College," Swinney said. "All those guys will get a lot of opportunity with our twos and threes, but Phil will get a chance to be the guy and I think it'll be great. And it's going to be good for Kobe and Shipley too, to have a good perspective mentally and to really stay engaged and as they physically get better, make sure they mentally get better too."

It is strange that there have been so many as of late. It could be just coincidence. It could be strength and training regimen. It could be the type of athletes they are recruiting (finesse over grit). Someone even suggested the new training facilities that came on line a few years back.
Not sure but they need to assess if there's something they are doing different than the majority of other top tier power 5 programs.
