Zerrick Cooper and if Kelly Bryant develops into a decent passer still has a chance. either way it's going to be an interesting QB competition next year especially if Brice and Johnson are early enrolles

I think Zerrick Cooper will push for early playing time.

? According to the article, 15 QBs are invited. It lists 15

May 15, 2016, 11:45 AM

QBs, but does not include Hunter Johnson:

The fifteen quarterback invited nationally are Kellen Mond, Jake Allen, Chase Garbers, Tate Martell, Shawn Robinson, Chase Brice, Jake Fromm, Chris Robison, Davis Mills, Sam Ehlinger, Tommy Devitto, Lowell Narcisse, Mac Jones, Myles Brennan, and Sean Clifford.

Interesting. Wonder which one does not belong?

There WAS 15 invited. Hunter makes it 16. So 2/16 = 12.5%

Still outstanding that we represent an eighth of the current Elite 11 invites.

No, it says we have two of the top 15, not 16.

May 15, 2016, 12:10 PM

I agree that it really doesn't matter, and that there is no doubt we have two of the best QB recruits in the country, at least two of the top 16, but the article clearly says there are 15 total, not 16.

Yes, there were 15 invitees before Hunter. Hunter makes 16. Article was wrong.

That's what I was stating.

Just Curious, when you see Johnson

May 15, 2016, 1:31 PM

Who does he remind you of?

Any former Tigers, what about players in general?

JT Barrett Imo

Very very similar

It will be an interesting QB battle because Z Cooper has a ton of talent & upside. Tough to make a prediction on his ceiling. I could see him winning the job, but Johnson seems more like a sure fire star imo.

Definitely not Barret

May 16, 2016, 7:29 AM [ in reply to Just Curious, when you see Johnson ]

Hunter has a much better and stronger arm. Closest in size, athleticism, accuracy, arm strength, off the field behavior and leadership qualities.... I'd have to say (excuse the lofty comparison) Andrew Luck. I'm not saying he will be anywhere as good as Luck, but coming out of HS, he looks a lot like him.

Barrett, not Barret. Kidding

I like the Luck comparison better too.

Chad Kelly actually comes to mind as the best comparison tho, minus extra curriculars hopefully lol.

I was struggling to think of someone with Hunter Johnson's arm strength because not many players have what he has, but Barrett & Johnson are very similar in terms of athleticism. The difference was Barrett was not as developed as a passer, but after his RS year at Ohio St him and Johnson play very similar. The difference being HJ is able to fit the ball into tighter windows & throw the deep ball better, but he will need to develop more touch on his throws in college, and that is something Barret does very well.

But if you put them on the field in tOSU & Clemson's offense you'd call very similar plays imo. Hunter Johnson just doesn't need to redshirt like Barrett.

Athleticism coming out of HS =

JTB was 6'2, 200, & ran a 4.6 40

Hunter Johnson 6'2.5, 205, 4.6 40

If had them do agility drills they would score very similar imo, so would Andrew Luck & Chad Kelly btw, & Johnson will probably play at 220-225 like Barrett. For some reason Johnson is listed as a pro style QB, and while he has a cannon of an arm, he's a dual threat QB ALLDAY. He has very good running ability.

Also, they play in similar offenses, keep their eyes downfield, know when to tuck and run, & seem to take the same amount of risk with their passes in order to make big plays. Johnson as a Jr had around 30Td's & 10ints, same as Barrett as a RS frosh at OSU.

Both are playmakers with their feet and tend to galvanize their teams. JT Barrett had some off the field issues, but his teammates respond to him, & he's the leader of the Buckeyes, so if you're dismissing his leadership at tOSU because he got in trouble I think your point is invalid. I've never hung out with Hunter Johnson or JT Barrett off the field so I couldn't comment on that with any type of certainty. Maybe you have. You never know what kids do off the field & what pressure will do to them. Kids make mistakes all the time,(Sammy) but before Barrett got in trouble Urban Meyer was beating the JT Barrett leadership drum to death.

Similar in a lot of ways imo.

I would put this in the same boat as why do we call the Big 10 and Big 12 those names when it doesn't make sense.
