Remember the days of holding your breathe for certain players to be eligible week to week?
It’s wild that they are all brain surgeons now and have no academic issues on any team across all of CFB. We are getting smarter!

yep.... semi-pro ball for the most part. You see all these 'portal' stars when they excel with other teams, but nothing about their degrees they've earned.

I bet you most of the guys have online classes. Watching the Livy Dunne Netflix episode, she hasn't attended in person classes for three years out of safety concern.
I wouldn't be surprised if that goes for most of the guys on the football team.

Same as with future H1-B foreign students, many of them have fake Bachelors degrees when entering a US university as a Masters Degree student via a Student Visa. Their sponsor (usually from India for Indian students) arranges for an educated Indian (from back in India) to do the Student Visa student’s school work for them. Complicit American universities, addicted to the high out-of-state tuitions from foreign students -&- eager to maintain their public ratings (as per ‘college ratings’ entities including but not limited to US News & World Report) by maintaining high graduation rates.
Thus, the foreign student with a real Masters Degree (albeit obtained fraudulently) and the credentialed student enters the lottery for a H1-B visa. US employers, eager to get a temporary employee at a sub-standard salary who’s highly motivated to not lose his job, never complains about working conditions; he hopes to ‘fake it ‘til he makes it’ and gets his employer to sponsor him for a Green Card.
(*). This long example is to illustrate the degree to which American industries (including media companies in the case of sports programming) coordinate with American universities to bypass the ‘rules’ which apply to ‘normal’ Americans (which in this case is represented by non-athlete students).
I strongly suspect that the institutional rules have been rigged so that CFB players almost never flunk out any more.

The grades haven't been brought up in a long time, but I remember way back when players would be suspended bc of bad grades. I think all that ended when the athletic department started paying tutors for the guys that college studies were overwhelming for some of the guys...

Student grades are considered private (and protected) information under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), meaning they cannot be disclosed to third parties without the student's (or their parent's if they are a minor) consent; essentially making them protected as private information.
Key points about student grades and privacy: FERPA protection: This federal law safeguards student education records, including grades, which means schools cannot share them freely with anyone outside the educational institution without proper authorization.

Fertile grounds indeed for universities to conspire with key students to engage in academic fraud with impunity.
Punishment or even embarrassment to the fraud-perpetrating university and the student athlete ‘beneficiaries’ is a thing of the past.
Come to think about it, Butch Davis would be an ideal HC in today’s CFB environment.
By your reasoning, if a crime cannot be investigated then it’s not a crime.

by them continuing to play and if they didn't by them not getting to play, which was basically the OP's point. It wasn't about right to know about details, at least I don't think that's what he meant.

Yeah. I remember when my daughter was in college and I suspected something was up because she always seemed to be around when she should be in class. I went to get a copy of her classes and grades and was told no because she was over 18. I managed to control myself after I told the lady but I'm paying for it and it still didn't change anything.
I asked how would a student get their info other than it being mailed home and thank goodness, the lady understood and said the students can go to a kiosk in the main building, get their classes, grades and even print a copy and all it takes is their name and SSN. I proceeded to to the kiosk and got all the info I needed. Needless to say, it wasn't pretty.
I'm just glad she finally grew up and is now a nurse.

Another aspect to all of the magical no one suspended for grades thing (which seemingly started disappearing around 5-6 years ago) have you ever noticed when a school like Duke or Vandy or Stanford or Michigan need a transfer everyone is just automatically qualified to get into all schools no matter how hard they seem to be for regular people to get into.
Actually i've heard many of these formerly so called prestigious academic schools are just diploma mills now, they work in conjunction with DEI and imported illegals to hand out essentially unearned fake diplomas to certain demographics while making the native demographic jump through the old more rigorous standards to both get in and also earn there degree.

Why do you want to make student-athletes adhere to rules that don’t apply to non student-athlete students? Do the nons have to sit out games with bad grades? (Even though they don’t play any sports.) Do you hate people? Get it together, skippy.
Yes, sarcasm.

I actually agree with you to a degree....i personally wouldn't keep people out of games just for arbitrary bad grades.....but i think people are making the point that if the grades are so bad you flunk out of an institution......alot of these athletes are simply not able to make into these universities without bending the rules......and people can make fun of UNC all day long (as they deserve to be) for the fake classes.....but whats the real difference between a fake class and a pretend grade.....its still fake if you show up or not. So if its gonna keep going this way for all college teams lets just make the teams semi pro with contracts would be alot better, all of this pretending is getting stupid.
