Add any value to our conference? What was the point of the ACC inviting them?

I really believe they are an up and coming program. They certainly have the funding to again become relevant.

Agreed. They still talk about that one the way we still talk about beating Bama almost 6 years ago now. Neither has done much sense.

I understand that being what you would wish for Ga, but Utah and West Virginia probably would have turned an invite to the ACC down, I believe...

Utah was turning their nose up at the Big 12 and saying they didn't want to be in a truck stop conference until they found out they were being lied to and there was no PAC TV deal so that new 31.7 million Big 12 contract looked pretty good to them. Could have made more in the ACC with its network but Phillips was dragging his a** and watched everyone else pick the best brands.

than Cal or Stanford as both are dead weight. SMU may prove to be a wise "investment" but currently it's an addition that's nothing to brag about publicly-

A big Endowment Fund. They were one of the top investers into their football program in 2023. They will likely invest more than Duke, WF, Cuse, and BC does into their programs. But its definitely not a game I would pencil in as a must see at SMU.

Led to believe. Their endowment is only about 2 billion. This is much larger than ours but a pittance compared to UNC($5B), UVA($8B), and Duke($11B).

Separate from traditional endowments: It’s the deep pocket boosters and their willingness to fund NIL that pushes SMU forward. I haven’t looked at their schedule, but it would not surprise me to see them quickly wedge in as a mid tier ACC team.

Also it gives us a foothold into Texas recruiting and let’s face it - there wasn’t much else for the conference to choose from.

They shouldn’t count because they weren’t apart of the GOR.
I know they count in the number of schools but not original members when deal was supposedly struck.

My question is, where is the money coming from that the ACC plans to pay Cal, SMU and Stanford with when ESECPN won't redo the ACC GOR's contract. If they get paid that means, there is even less money for Clemson and FSU....

But SMU from a money standpoint might be investing as much into athletics as any school in the ACC. If they go financially "all-in", they'll be a football powerhouse in the ACC.

Since announcing move to ACC, SMU raised $159M. Yesterday, when SMU actually became one of the newest members of ACC, they raised another $125M. So don't get too cocky. There's a reason Texas didn't want SMU back in the Big12.

How many ACC teams have been ranked higher than SMU over the last 5 years? Clemson and FSU no doubt, NC State and VT probably, Louisville and North Carolina maybe... That's about it.

I did, however, hope that adding teams would be the catalyst to getting out of the bad media right deal.
Not too thrilled about having California teams in the ACC, but SMU, yes, welcome. Come to Clemson, you'll be treated well.

In the ACC, teams that have ranked 15th or higher in the last 5 years, you have:
Clemson (2023) FSU (2023) UNC (2023) Louisville (2023) NCSU (2022) Miami (2022) Wake Forest (2022) Syracuse (2022) Pitt (2021) Virginia Tech (2021)
