I get ribbed on at thanksgiving because I insist on pretty much scratch making everything because that’s what I grew up with (and it’s better). Canned cranberry sauce is the only exception, last year as a gag Christmas gift my FIL got me a tray that has “can-berry” written on it and the tray even has matching ribs to the can. It will definitely be on the table full of ocean spray goodness come tomorrow

Agreed. My in-laws make this weird, bitter stuffing and want to provide canned brown gravy. I grew up in the Appalachian mountains and ALL gravy is sawmill gravy. Thanksgiving just means the fat will be Turkey drippings. I usually ask for the drippings and make it against their protest. Funny thing happens, the gravy goes empty first and their jar gravy doesn’t get touched. I think she gets jealous that my country gravy gets destroyed. I usually make my own cornbread dressing as well. That “dressing in a box or bag” crap is garbage. Might as well be oyster stuffing. Don’t even get me started on that. Nightmares of Thanksgiving in Minnesota

Wife makes a fresh cranberry relish.
Recipe:
Ingredients
4 cups of cranberries (about 1lb.)
2 medium oranges, and their grated zest
1 apple (like a Honeycrisp, or a Gala: something sweet and tart and crisp), peeled and sliced
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. toasted, and then chopped walnuts
Instructions
With a zester, zest the outer peel off of two oranges. (Use the orange part only, not the bitter white of the pith underneath).
Then peel and section the oranges. Put cranberries, orange sections, zest, and apple slices into food processor and pulse until mixture is finely chopped, but NOT puréed.
Add most of sugar and taste, adding more sugar to suit your taste. Stir in walnuts and refrigerate.
Serve cold.

Fresh baked yeast rolls!!!!!!! If you can't make them from scratch, then Sister Shubert's Dinner Yeast rolls are very good. But I could be happy with nothing but cornbread dressing and giblet gravy and sweet tea to wash it down. Topped off with pumpkin pie.
