What is the key to success tomorrow?

9

Dec 6, 2024, 10:05 AM

Other than more points ;)

I think for us to win, Cade needs around 35 passing attempts. Need to be aggressive through the air early and often.

Agreed!! Play the entire game like we started last week. Stop trying to run out the clock in the second quarter.

Agree. We need to play the entire game with a sense of urgently.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It seems like we should just always run 2 min offense

Dec 6, 2024, 10:33 AM [ in reply to Re: What is the key to success tomorrow? ]

Because that is when we seem to click. Keep the up tempo play. I think one reason for our defense beginning to falter late in games is due to our offense operating slower than in the past. When we would run 80-90 plays a game, our defense looked more conditioned. Maybe that wasn’t the case, but it did seem that way.

Tackle, this team seems to be soft and does not tackle well.

Lots of arm tackles when we have them behind the line of scrimmage.

It’s more about the defense. We have to hold SMU to around 100 yards rushing and under 200 passing. Something we have failed to do too often under Pork Chop.

Do not coach “not to lose” .. stop the run and keep Sammy B off the bench ..

Like always....finishing drives and stop stalling around the Redzone. To many times we've gotten inside the opponents 30 and come away with 0. Then everyone will want to blame the defense for 14-17 points of offense not being good enough to win. I don't think Cade threw one pass to the endzone last week.

Re: What is the key to success tomorrow?

Dec 6, 2024, 10:20 AM

Utilize all RBs, especially of Maffah looks slow. And don't run up the middle too many times if SMU is stopping us.
Utilize Sammy Brown, especially if SMU has an effective RB or running QB.
Tell Cade if you don't want him to throw to Maffah in the middle of the field. Or just never throw to Maffah.
Throw downfield to our WRs. Limit screen passes. WRs must make plays and catch da ball. Let Cade be Cade.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Re: What is the key to success tomorrow?

Dec 6, 2024, 10:22 AM

Need to play a clean game, meaning no turnovers and limit penalties. I think we need to throw and complete passes downfield to set up the run. if we get a 7 point lead we need to keep pushing to score more. Need to execute in the red zone, but if don't score TD we need to make our FG's. On Defense we need to tackle better. I have not watched SMU so don't really know what to expect.

Just like last week, getting more rushing yards than SMU. The game is in the hands of the OL and DL.

Play good defense and if Mafah is still hurt. Let him save his shoulder for the NFL and play the other RB's who are prepared and ready for this moment.

Go Tigers!

Re: What is the key to success tomorrow?

Dec 6, 2024, 11:08 AM

Defensively STOP THE RUN! Make them one dimensional. Win first down, cannot allow them to have 2nd and 5 or less, that leaves them too much room for shot plays, extends drives, and is a morale killer.

Offensively part of the Same, win 1st down, stay on schedule. Stretch the field!! have to at least threaten vertically to open things up underneath and in the run game. Be efficient and NO TURNOVERS!

These are keys to most games I know, but against a really good offensive team especially I think you have to extend drives to keep it out of their hands as much and make the most of your own scoring opportunities because they are gonna score points, we just have to limit their opportunities and capitalize on our own.

If Cade can stay away from those 2 or 3 Dennis the Menace plays he’s guilty of in big games we will have a solid shot to win.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What is the key to success tomorrow?

Dec 6, 2024, 6:21 PM

Light them up. Throw throw throw throw throw then run. They've given up a ton of yards to every half decent offense they've played. The key is finding some way to slow down their offense. Fortunately they don't have Michael Vick 2.0 at QB like we seen last week.
