What I still can't understand

is this obsession with Florida State by the media. I mean sure they were a decent team last year but they haven't really proven anything. They beat 6 win Oklahoma by a hair and all of the sudden they're going to the playoffs. Every year it's someone new who's gonna "dethrone Clemson in the ACC". As far as I'm concerned they'll have the same result as NC State. But who knows. Maybe I'm missing something.

1. They surprised folks, even FSU fans, with 10 wins.
2. They had a second great year with portal guys who came in.
3. They brought in an even better, on paper, portal list this year.
4. They kept 4 or 5 guys that were eligible for NFL draft and were expected to go.
5. They are still a "name" program.
Put that all together and the media will run to hype them up.
But, they play the game on paper, not on hype. Just look at aTm. They were the "media hype" team 12 months ago.
Me? I'm hopeful. I'm cautiously optimistic. But, I haven't made reservations in Houston next January.

Big name program, finished the season strong, bringing back a lot of key players including their QB, and have a favorable schedule aside from the road game against Clemson. That's probably not enough to make them NC favorites or anything, but I can see how it puts them into a conversation of having a shot at running the table and making the CFP if they can get past Clemson.

FSU has gotten better and filling depth from the portal, meanwhile our offense has been on life support for most part of 2 years.

with the Divisions going away in the ACC it's completely understandable that Clemson and FSU are the "leading" candidates to win the conference. If you pay attention to the world of college football and not just Clemson you'd be able to understand the thought behind FSU being pretty decent this year.
TCU hadn't "proven" anything either prior to this past year..............that's what the portal can do for a team.

much better, in and out of the portal. Not sure they have risen to the level of winning the conference, but that is why we play the games. IMO, conference improvement helps us.

It is really simple. News outlets need people to read and click their content to stay in business. Reporting UGA, Bama, Ohio and USC as the favs is not compelling so they have to spice it up by inserting a few long shots. They dont necessarily believe what they write as long as it gets clicks.
