When he sends in his NLI near the end of the year, is when I will get excited about this. Last season's decommits have made me jaded.

It’s one heck of a lot better to get a non-binding commitment from a star player than to be in the outside look8ng in.

Sure, he may end up going somewhere else. But if he commits (un-binding as that may be), it provides us with opportunities to get his exclusive attention (as far as visiting our campus & athletic facilities) and thus strengthen the cognitive + emotional bonds between the committed recruit and us. If / when he decides to take visits elsewhere after he commits to us, then we de-commit him.

We keep more committed recruits than we end up losing.
