Notre Dame - Southern Cal series is going away.

Per reports today. One more scheduled game this year then it may end. Notre Dame wants a long term extension, USC (the REAL one) is not likely to extend. Fear of more competition or pressure from the Big 10 to end it? Who knows. But I called it with this post just after Clemson signed a long term deal. We sure look like the Southern Cal replacement for Notre Dame.

Ending this one makes sense with the ‘new era’ of college football.
What’s asinine was Michigan ever ending their rivalry, that should be played every year with The Game.

Notre Dame has had 44 meetings with Michigan. They have had 95 meetings with Southern Cal.

Put me in the ‘don’t care’ crowd. Let them kill all their rivalries.

The Michigan-ND and the USC-ND rivalries were both likely killed by the Big 10. The Big 10 and the SEC are trying to close out teams not in the group of 2. Not good.

They are increasingly rigging the sport to crowd out everyone else. And ESPN

....Oklahoma/Nebraska, Oklahoma/Oklahoma State.
I'm sure there are others.
The biggest one of those was Oklahoma/Nebraska in the old Big 8. Back in the 60s and 70s it was "the national game of the week" (remember those days?) every year.

How about the old SWC.... people forget conference realignment isn't anything new. I miss the days of the Nebraska/OU rivalry between Switzer and Osborne. Blows my mind how Nebraska hasn't gotten back to greatness with all the support they have up in Omaha.

And, IMO, Notre Dame’s greed has interfered with great opportunities for much better ball games for them and all the rest of us. I think it will bite them in the arses, before it’s all said and done. JMO

The BIG has tired of supporting ND who contribute nothing to any conference. So, they are cutting them off. If ND wants to be independent, let them find other teams to use to grease their media deal. The BIG has offered ND a spot in the BIG, and ND has refused to join. I wish Clemson had not helped them by agreeing to play them every year. I understand it helps Clemson get more eyes on tv and thus more bonus money from ACC .
FSU is trying to schedule as many top teams as possible so as to cash in on the media tv rating bonus from ACC. FSU says losing those games will not keep them from getting a CFP spot since all they have to do is win the ACC conference Championship and they are in. Smart move by FSU.
