Does anyone feel the position group has improved under his tutelage versus when BV had them? I see it gradually being less impactful on D each year. He gets really solid lbs but they dont seem to improve

especially when you sit the best tackler on the team against a running qb. 🤦🏼

Well. Frankly what position group improves the longer we have them? It’s not wr or rb. Def not special teams of any kind. Maybe corners, d line?

Trotter and Woodaz improved. Carter didn't.

Sometimes it's on the player.
By the way, BV is one of the best DCs in the world. Tough shoes to fill.

This is probably the largest contributor to the drop off.

Carter improved a bit from the 2023 season.
Woodaz improved a lot.
Sammy Brown improved tremendously between 1st half if the season to 2nd half if the season.
Going way back to beginning of the season, Kobe McCloud didn’t look too bad for a severely undersized LB.
My disappointment in LB development has been Jamaal Anderson …he’s got excellent speed, but is a poor tackler and, from what little I’ve seen from him during plays from scrimmage, doesn’t defeat blocks well and just doesn’t seem aggressive. Whether Wes Goodwin is to blame or not, J.Anderson represents a case of a LB that hasn’t developed much under Goodwin’s role as LB coach.

No way, you are dead wrong on McCloud.

He is absolutely not a D1 prospect.

The coaching isn't the issue.

Said Arians upon Goodwin’s promotion to defensive coordinator at Clemson: “Wesley is one of the best young defensive minds I’ve had the opportunity to work with. He was with my staff for three years in Arizona and I saw him grow defensively, and offensively, that whole time. He has a bright, bright future.”

Doesn’t necessarily translate into being a great coach. I think the rush D problems this year are largely a LB issue, not DLine.

LBs and lack of DE depth. We only have one NFL talented DE that has seen the field this year. LB coaching has been a concern of mine since day one. A D1 coach with no coaching experience and no time playing at high level just doesn't breed confidence.

No. BV did a much better job at coaching Linebacker. The tackling and gap integrity has progressively gotten worse which is why the run d is suffering more this year. Set the edge maintain gaps and tackle= good run D.

Lorenzo Ward and Boulware have been with the LB's all season.

Sammy is definitely growing into the role. Carter is streaky but more better outings this season than last. Hope he streaks it up here at the finish to fulfill his expectation for sure.
