Reports: Clemson center to transfer

Clemson freshman center Lynn Kidd has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports. Kidd reclassified to the 2020 class from 2021 last summer to enroll for last season. He saw action in seven games, scoring a season-best four points against Florida State. The IMG Academy product was ra Read Update »

Well that sucks. I wonder what his deal is? Maybe hall is just better and he knew that he was going to be a back up for 2-3 more years?

So now we are razor thin in the post. We have hall, Tyson, and Naz who is 6-6.

This transfer bs is crazy. At least we might be able to get a decent center in the portal. Maybe a Donnal type.

viztiz that’s where I’m at right now. I’m in blind sunshine pumper mode. This isn’t a major blow because as many have said here, this program is on the upswing. There’s so much returning talent that Kidd’s transfer will hardly be noticeable! Brad will find us a even better replacement! NCAA tournament berth is still very much on the table!

emoji_events [9]
May 13, 2021, 5:51 PM

happy with playing for Brownell are lost in their fandom of CBB. While not all kids will always be happy there is obviously a problem with Clemson bball. At this point, you lose 2 walk-ons that are needed just for practice bodies even if not playing time. You basically have zero chance of building a team because CBB is constantly trying to plug holes with graduate transfers from all the player transfers out of the program. And then you see recruits backing out of their NIL's, which I am sure he had a relationship with one of the current players who has likely fed him the reasons as to why he shouldn't come to Clemson and probably transferred out as well.

You will never convince me that happy players transfer at rate we are seeing under CBB. Yes, Dabo has 2-4 transfers per year but those players either get buried in the depth charts but leave after graduation or you have a primadonna that little fastback RB last year, can't remember name. But you don't see players at alarming rates like we do under CBB. When you are talking 50% of team leaving, that is a problem.

I still say it's time for a change. Even if new coach has same W-L record but plays an exciting style of basketball, it would be better for players, fans, and overall program. Hopefully we could upgrade the W column but in a normal year of quality teams in the ACC, a winning record in ACC play would most of the time get us into the Tournament.

It’s definitely NOT alarming when we lose 2/3rd of the only significantly ranked class that supposedly heralded our turnaround. Brownell knows what he’s doing. Jennings taught him the hard way not to stick it out with a kid just because he was highly ranked. Brownell has mastered the portal and doesn’t need to invest time developing these guy who aren’t willing to work for it. We got this!

Clemson fans, as a whole, don’t support basketball unless it’s convenient.

It can’t conflict with football, a school night, bad weather, a holiday, or anything else they find interesting. And now you’re telling me that even if these conflicts are avoided, fielding a good team isn’t even good enough. No, they must be entertaining enough.

Give me a break. Either you support the team because they have CLEMSON on their jerseys, and work their tails off for your university, or you look for reasons not to.

Re: You are delusional.

May 14, 2021, 3:57 PM

When I was at Clemson '88-93, we would camp for basketball tickets on occasion and stand in line often. Reasoning was we had a good team obviously with Big Dale and Elden C. The school put students next to the court, we would get rowdy and the games were a blast. The style of basketball was fun and the arena was packed every game minus maybe holidays like Christmas/Thanksgiving. The school often gave students some type of a rally toy like pom-poms or matching T-shirts. The basketball enthusiasm was high.

Look at when OP was here and the students turned out at much higher rates. Remember the white guy with dreads that was courtside at every single game, and he had his groupy that travelled to all away games but home games they had great turn out. The game was more entertaining, OP was much more likeable as he seemed to be much more player type coach just based on his player interaction courtside. CBB'S interaction is never smiling, always yelling, almost never getting into celebratory engagements with players courtside, you just see coaching or admonishment.

You can love Brad all you want, and I really think he is a good mentor, runs a clean program, but he has hit his high at Clemson and at this point people/fans don't see anything positive happening that would move the program forward beyond what we have seen for 11yrs. And at this point, there is more negative happening than positive so why would fans want to see the same ole boring style of basketball with players that nobody can recognize because huge turnover. If the players were 5* studs like Duke recruits then you could see fans wanting to see their skills but we are getting non-NBA talent graduate student transfers for one year and our potential NBA talent recruits transfer out after a year or even back out of NILs now.

Again, not a Brad Hater, far from it. Pulled for Brad for 5-6yrs hard, but I'm done with expecting change to the point I don't get excited for the season to start anymore where I used to. I still seldom miss a televised game but it's often just background noise instead of intently watching.

Last 3 years CBB’s teams have finished 275th, 298th, and 314th in the country in ppg. If that’s the way you’re going to play, your ceiling is really really low, yet Coach Brownelle shows no interest in adapting. It’s understandable that fans get frustrated with an apparent disinterest in ever rising above mediocrity. Doesn’t make them bad fans. Should Clemson bball fans really be enthused about their coach’s commitment to keeping games in the 50’s when that will obviously not ever allow them to compete for the acc? Don’t these transfers indicate players don’t believe in Brownelle? I’d say Clemson has good fans and a mediocre basketball coach.

An NCAA bid will be excellent this year in my opinion. I will even be happy with a deep run in the NIT. My expectations for this year are low because of losing Simms and to an extent Trapp. Next year should be better as Dawes, Honor, Hunter, Hemenway will be seniors and Hall will be a junior - hope we can keep them all and add some good new players.

Another big man transfers - why?

emoji_events [5]
May 13, 2021, 8:29 PM

The Judge and I have a mostly cordial disagreement over this topic for the past several months.
For whatever reason - BB does not play or develop big men. The past couple of years he played our best 3 - maybe a 4 at center and IMO - hurt both the team and the player (Sims). He could have developed more into a position he will play in the pros.
It is hard to talk a big man into coming when you don’t play them, don’t plan an inside game, don’t play 2 at a time to defend inside teams. Yep, I am not a basketball coach- but it sure seems to me that with an inside game - your outside players get better shots. It helps eliminate the 5+ minute scoring droughts when the 3s go cold.
Kidd was another highly recruited center, trey Jemison before Kidd, legend Robertin before him. All not played, none developed, all transferred.
Why?
Bigs take longer to develop - fine. But last year Kidd played 37 minutes. Don’t you think he could have gotten in a couple minutes a half? Protect the rim, defense, maybe a board or two, and maybe pull the defense away from Sims?

With the one year strong forward - one year player from yesterday, I was pleased and thinking maybe BB would develop inside.
Now, we are back without a true center.
Prosper was 6’8” but left for unknown reasons.
That leaves
PJ Hall whose playing time died at the end of the season, and who can guess the next tallest returner? Hunter Tyson. At 6’8”. Naz is 6’6” btw.
I am sure they will give it their all - but why?

BB #22 ranked class of 2020 has gone from 3 - 4 stars to 1.

Simms development wasn't all about Brownell

May 15, 2021, 12:44 PM

Simms had some trainer(s) outside of the program, as did Landry Nnoko and Elijah Thomas... Also, Simms development at Clemson was becoming a better shooter, which one of the assts puts the shooters through their paces. Brownell mostly works on the concepts, but he's not so much in the weeds with shooting, dribbling, footwork drills and such.

The 2021 transfer portal has over 1,500 players and almost half have not committed. CU lost players that were not getting playing time at this level or they had serious competition.

I do not know where sports is headed. I have officiated high school sports for 40 years in NC. Teams use to allow everyone to suit up that shows up for football and had to cut players for basketball, baseball, and softball. Now if I don’t start or play a lot I’m not bothering with coming to practice. Had one varsity team this year in football with 15 players. Kids and parents at all levels think they are the next star in MLB, NBA, and NFL. Players just think they are better than they are so “I’ll go be a superstar somewhere else.” It’s just players using free agency to see what happens. It happens everywhere and it’s not the coaches fault. It’s about how many can play at one time and number of players.

Sorry, logic isn’t allowed on the T-net.
