Nike suspends endorsement of Deshaun Watson
Nike has decided to suspend their endorsement of Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson on Wednesday. “We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and have suspended Deshaun Watson. We will continue to closely monitor the situation,” Nike said in a statement. Watson is currently being a (Photo: Trevor Ruszkowski / USATODAY) Read Update » |

Suspended, not removed.
I think it needs to be said explicitly here, but this is almost certainly just a formality; it was always unavoidable by nature.
The same is true for the NFL----Watson will likely have a suspension not for proof of wrongdoing but simply by the nature of how they investigate. I hope this helps----I know many who get furiously upset about the suggestion of a suspension but I hope this helps understand better that no matter how innocent he is this was likely inevitable outright.

Of course, this was the inevitable outcome. This is what has been made possible by social justice and the mob mentality "movement". If someone raises their voice, showing off that they are a victim, the unwashed hordes jump in line behind them. The unfortunate victim are those who actually are hurt, but wont be heard because of all the pandering and need for attention/money/ revenge. Thanks to mob mentality, a good reputation, that has taken time to develop, can be destroyed overnight, regardless of actual proof

I quit buying anything from NIKE years ago! Makes it a little tough buying some Clemson items, but there are plenty of alternatives.
Just hope DW4 gets through this crisis. Otherwise, he will be stuck playing for the Texans, and they will be glad to have him. The national press will have a field day smearing him and his reputation.

If im the ceo of nike, or any other company, i would let a verdict from the court system be my guide. Not the court of public opinion. I am more solid in my belief of the constitution and the actual court system.
If i am the father of the masseuse, i hope that i had raised my daughter to 1. Be honest and respectful.of others 2. A good right cross. If not that, then a tazer close at hand. Either way, it wouldnt have been an issue.

Nike ain't cutting it's nose to spite it's own face. I can assure you a business that successful uses shareholder value as a guiding principle far more than NOPE I'M GOING TO CONTINUE PAYING THIS GUY UNTIL THE GAVEL DROPS.
She should have punched or tazed DW, huh? That's rich. Dadgum alleged victims can't seem to do ANYTHING right can they?

A business that successful can pretty much get away with whatever it wants. Peoples memories are way too short. I sincerley doubt that anyones spending habits will be affected by any this.

I will say this. I am solidly behind DW, if you couldnt tell. I believe in innocent until proven guilty. That is a founding principle of this country and for every citizen to hold dear. I will staunchly protect and campaign for that, for anyone. I despise the idea that anyone can be convicted through some form of public opinion. I find companies and celebrities, that denounce someone before that verdict is rendered, to be abhorrent and not worthy of any possible value or honor.
If it comes to pass that DW has, in some way, been guilty of any of the charges leveled, then i will stand with that verdict. However, without a judgement that is beyond "a shadow of a doubt", i refuse to smear or destroy someones character.

guilty. But remember that's simply a court driven model. And it works as well as any judicial system in the world.
Businesses can do what they want though. And "suspending" him is not unreasonable.
I mean, if your employer found out you were arrested for DUI while in a company car it would be totally reasonable for them to suspend you from use of that car or possibly even suspend you from work pending the outcome.
I also find it cynical that many will firmly stand behind and believe DW, but are quick to call 22 women hoars, money grabbers, out for fame, whatever. Not sure how people like that can reconcile being on different sides of similar situations.
Finally, if DW was someone else...let's say the QB at UGA. Or an assistant coach at Florida. These same posters would not be blindly supporting that person.

Good point. However, dui is a criminal charge, with evidence and the potential for putting an employer( vs an endorser) at risk of further charges. Still innocent until proven guilty, but at least in that case, there is some legal standing. DWs case is, to this point, pure innuendo and supposition.

I would also agree that its unnecessary and a poor reflection of Clemson character to throw mud until there is a resolution.
As to your uga..... how could you even think to defend them?!?!?! They are indefensible purely from the fact ITS UGA. lmao lord help us all if it had happened to a USCar alum....

Didn’t Nike “suspend” their endorsement of Kobe Bryant when that girl claimed he had assaulted her years ago? Then it became clear that it was consensual. Guilty until proven Innocent.

Actually yes, not to mention others including Coca-Cola.
As for it being consensual outright, not so much, but again, yes, he got most of his endorsements right back from suspension rather than termination. He lost McDonalds, I believe, but it's hard to guarantee it was from this outright.

I wasn’t aware that someone actually proved that Kobe was innocent. It all just went away when his representatives came to an agreement with the accusers. If that were to happen in this case maybe DW4 would be reinstated.

I can be a jerk, and have my faults, but I consider myself to be a good guy at least in that I wouldn't abuse, attempt to rape, or rape a woman. However, if I weren't married then there's a lot of pornstars I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to be with. Before anyone says anything about diseases, they're tested for those much more than any of us are.

I dunno, I mean, I hear you, but I once found out I was in a video at a party with a male #### star. I had no idea, & frankly I don't think I deserve to be judged on that alone.
I believe there's a middle ground, and I don't believe any of it was outright rape. I think the one thing we can all agree on is there's more research going into this than most cases & as a result we'll get more answers, it's the waiting that sucks.

It doesn't. But I've seen plenty of white, middle-aged Christian women clutching their pearls and saying "the Deshaun I KNOW would NEVER do anything like this".
Taking a picture with a #### star in a maid outfit isn't close to criminal, or necessarily even immoral, but it certainly doesn't jive with the image that many close-minded Clemson fans have of DW.

Religion bothers you that badly? The "pearl clutching middle aged Christian women" and "close minded" tie in were a giveaway.
Do you know they (the close minded) were in fact all "middle aged" or "Christian" or "middle aged Christian women" or "pearl clutching middle aged Christian women" or is that merely a stereotypical assumption to confirm the bias in your mind? Its there. I've never seen any middle aged Christian women wear pearls much less clutch them. Neither have any of my friends. I asked them.

labor in China? Just seems like Nike really shouldn't be throwing rocks in their very large glass house. Whatever Deshaun's supposed "transgressions" may be (I still believe in the vanishing notion of presumed innocence until proven guilty)-----Nike's business practices are most definitely questionable from an ethical point of view.

Actually I worked in the Pacific Rim for 30 years. Last visited China in 2014. Internet? Had my first computer in 1983, as I was carrying out experiments on what became the cell phone: Flood search, discrete address, random access, etc. My Tigers’ decision to go Nike postponed my Nike boycott decision until relatively later. (Trying to be forever loyal to my school...good, bad or ugly). Not critical much are we?! SMH!

Wilson Sporting Goods right here in Fountain Inn used SC prison labor for a long time repackaging tennis balls made in China. And, so did Penguin Publishing...prisoners sorted through tractor trailers of returned books to repackage those not damaged.
You don't have to go far to find forced labor. These companies "fold" on the headline issues as to cover their own dirty laundry.

You're missing the point about prison labor by saying they "choose" to work to get out of their cell. I don't necessarily disagree. The dirty secret is those companies pay $.15-.50 per hour of labor so they don't have to hire "outside" labor at (the very least) minimum wage.
100 people @ $.35 per hour = $35.00 per hour x 8 hours = $280 per day
100 people @ $8.00 per hour = $800 per hour x 8 hours = $6,400 per day
So, unless ALL companies can hire prison labor...someone has a clear advantage.

I'm not sure I understand the point is all. Are you saying Deshaun supports slave labor by making millions from Nike? I mean, I guess I hear you, but I dunno, it feels like a separate storyline outright. Not sure what to think about players we like taking money this way now but I've always celebrated it before.

I didn’t miss any point. Housing prisoners is a tremendous cost to me in the form of taxes. Now if they choose to go out and work to be removed from the cell and the state recoups some of the coat of housing those same inmates that’s called cost recoupment not slave labor. Hope that helps

Prison Industries is a valid business with paid employees. True, they aren't paid much but the prisoners also don't Have To Work. Some people actually prefer working and learning a skill. Others prefer playing video games and sleeping as payment for their crimes while taxpayers provide their food and medical care. Many school districts buy furniture from Prison Industries and it works well for all involved.

Here in Florida, Prison Industry competes in the printing

industry against tax paying, for-profit organizations.
Our labor cost on a printing job will be $1,000 . . . . prison industry's cost is $150.
It may take them a week longer to produce - but they have equipment & manpower to compete against a large percentage of printing companies in our state.

Important detail, suspension & not discontinuation. A suspension from the NFL is likely just as unavoidable by nature (rather than an admission of guilt).
I'm not sure why I haven't found more info on it here at Tigernet but two of the alleged victims came out with their names & voices, both of whom are part of the civil suits.
This is not a coincidence with the Nike suspension timing, and y'all PLEASE try to prepare yourselves for a likely NFL suspension. Again, it's by nature, not guilt, & don't get mad at them for it but continue to keep DW in your prayers. Just my two cents.

How Nike makes their products has nothing to with this topic at all. They’re not judging Deshaun’s character, they’re judging his commercial appeal. They pay him a huge sum because they think that being associated with him will help them sell more products, now they think it won’t so they don’t wanna pay it any more. It’s just that simple.

Guilty until proven innocent. Totally broken.
We are so twisted up and screwed it’s not even funny. People wearing masks all by themselves, trans day of recognition, anti police sentiment in mainstream, open racism against Caucasian’s in the popular culture.

What's worse, thinking 1 guy is not telling the truth or thinking 22 women are not telling the truth?

You know for a fact that he frequents Qanon, or is that an assumption? Presupposition maybe?

That applies to the court system, not private businesses. They have the right to associate (or not associate) their brand with whoever, whether any of us like it or not.

Thou shalt not challenge NFL ownership. Let this be a lesson to the rest of you players. Do not speak out, do not threaten to break contracts, if you are a franchise player, we own you. Otherwise your reputation and livelihood will be destroyed.

It is hard not to believe that this could end a potential great career for Deshaun. Very sad that he did not people in his life that could have helped him before it got to this.

I don’t see this as a threat to his career being over. I’m uncertain of the forthcoming charges, but none of the women claim violence or rape. The worst ONE allegation is that he made contact to her hand with his ##### when he rolled over. The majority of the complaints is that he asked for, or insinuated, that he wanted the proverbial “happy ending”. Civil court, he’s likely screwed. In a criminal court, not so certiain. Will this even result in jail time (especially if defendant has no prior record)? I’m thinking the average Joe would get probation, mandatory sensitivity training, etc. There will be no prison time. At worse; Some time in County. Back to his NFL career; Using past precedence of Michael Vick, his felony conviction didn’t orevent him from having a successful return.

Very,very easy answer to this

Stay out of massage parlors! If you go to places like this, run by “scantily clad” professionals you are likely going to pay the price! Once should be enough. Forty is to many!
With Watsons money he could employ a professional person to care for him ...,, if that’s is all he was looking for.

But he didn't go to massage parlors, & he also employed professionals for his care, deliberately so it seems?

Wouldn't you at this point in the game. They have to protect their brand. Hopefully it will all blow over and he can go back to normal.
