Changes were made so they could say they made some changes.

What? #2 will cost some games.

Apr 21, 2020, 10:09 PM [ in reply to Not much to see here.. ]

If you are at a goal line stance for final play or 2 of game and it gets under 3sec, although coach was calling TO, i its not 3sec+ then you don't get to run that ladt olay. That is BS. How about icing the kicker with 1 sec and you team got called offsides, game is over. This rule is total BD. I hate it.

I don’t think this rule affects either scenario you are presenting. The rule states that it has to be a situation where the time would start back on the official’s signal, and that would not be the case if a team is calling time out, or in a dead ball foul situation.

Coach Saban got his rule in place.***

What rule is the Coach Saban rule ?

Rule #2

Additionally, if the game clock expires at the end of a half and replay determines that there was time remaining and the clock should start on the referee’s signal after review, there must be at least three seconds remaining, when the ball should have been declared dead, to restore time to the clock. If less than three seconds remain on the game clock, the half is over.

Nick Saban blew a gasket when Auburn was allowed 1 second on the clock before half time last season. They scored a FG which at the end would would end up being a winning factor.

If this rule had been in place in 2013, the Kick 6 would not

Apr 22, 2020, 8:17 AM

have happened, Saban challenged the clock expiring and one second was added back. Bama attempted the field goal and one of the most iconic last plays of any game ever occurred. I think this could have HUGE ramifications, especially out of time outs trying to get out of bounds in field goal range.

You're missing the part about a running clock. The kick six would still have played out the same as the runner was deemed out of bounds with 1 second left which would have stopped the clock. The review backed this up and a second was added.

If the player had been tackled in bounds with 2 seconds left, and it went to a review... under the new rule it would've been deemed end of regulation, going to OT.

Shouldn't cause many problems because if it's inside of 3 seconds when a player goes down with a running clock, there's basically 0 chance you could get another play off.

I like the rule to prevent what happened last year in Bama/Auburn game, but clearly it rarely happens in a crucial situation, or we would've heard about it before last year.

Re: TNET: NCAA announces rule changes for upcoming football season

Officials have more authority and players are held accountable before games begin. That should stop pregame brawls, if anything will.

Also preventing corrective rulings from giving a team an extra play at the end of the half, like in basketball when you cannot inbound and shoot without a certain minimum on the clock.

No significant change on targeting, supposedly shorter review times and restrictions on number usage.

I'd say those first two are good preventative measures and guidelines. The others are meh.

On targeting calls, the refs should be allowed as much time necessary to view all angles of that particular call to be absolutely sure that it was actually targeting bc replay folks determined what part of a play the people in the stands and TV viewers see that sometimes sway the ruling!!!

I wonder if 01,02,03,04,05,06,07,08,09 and 00 will also be allowed. That would decrease the duplicate number problem for ten players .

With a nod to Ian Fleming, 00 would be cooler than 0.

Let's hope we can use the 0-series numbers. We have about two dozen duplicate numbers on our roster that we'll have to change.
