Re: TNET: National analyst has gap for Clemson to make up in ACC to top team

I don’t know about the rest of you Tiger fans, but I’m sick and tired about hearing how great UGA is, how wonderful FSU and its portal lineup is, and how we’re destined to lose to both of them because Dabo doesn’t use the portal to get 4 and 5 star players rather than recruiting them. If DJ was all that great he’d still be playing for CU. Obviously there are some good players who enter the portal, but I’m guessing that most portal members are non-starters who are looking for more playing time and may end up with none.
Raise your hand if you can remember when Trevor was a freshman and the talking heads declared that that year’s Alabama team may be the greatest of all time. And we kicked their butts. I wonder what the ratio of our 5 star recruits to theirs was. Is there a small chance that coaching could make a difference in how well a team plays.
We may lose to UGA, though I don’t think it will be by the betting margin. Or we may lose to FSU, but I don’t think we will. And I really don’t believe that we will lose to both of them. I am concerned about another “Duke-type” debacle though. Another lose to NCSU? Watch out for App State right after the UGA game and the emotions it will take, win or lose. And I will bet we play VA Tech at night. November in Blacksburg can be pretty rugged. I can personally attest to that.
The talking heads didn’t, for the most part, pick Michigan to go all the way last year. CU was on no one’s radar for the 1980 national championship. Look at their record the previous year. Who ever heard of Homer Jordan?
My point is that the analysis have been all over the place with Clemson. Sorta like economists trying to decide if national debt is god or bad. Fortunately, we get to play the teams on our schedule, which gives us a chance to be the winning team, regardless of the “experts’ “ projections.
