Now, for all of you who were screaming that TL should start ahead of KB, are you feeling good today? Just hope TL stays healthy. Don't know if CB is ready.

So you want to let a potential transfer hold the coach

Sep 26, 2018, 11:32 AM

hostage to not making the correct decision? It's not a great situation, but I don't know how you can be a good coach and be dictated by one player over the team.

Re: So you want to let a potential transfer hold the coach

Sep 26, 2018, 11:40 AM

The two qb situation was working fine. Don't even know why Dabo had to announce the starting qb for Syracuse. Just play 'em and go with the hot hand. If KB started the game and stunk it up the first series, put KL in. The only real reason any of the three softy games were close was because Dabo was rotating everyone in and out, not just the qbs. But all of us (including the media) had to make a big stink about the qb situation. Again, hope TL stays healthy.

Dabo did KB a huge favor by announcing Trevor as the starter this week. One more game, and KB is done, over, and sulking on the bench the rest of his last year. Instead, he gets to go his own way with a year left. He should be thanking Dabo instead of taking potshots.

Dabo had to broach the issue...

Sep 26, 2018, 11:56 AM [ in reply to Re: So you want to let a potential transfer hold the coach ]

…because of the 4 game red shirt rule, that's the only reason. He was unselfishly giving KB options many other coaches would not have.

Sep 26, 2018, 7:24 PM [ in reply to Re: So you want to let a potential transfer hold the coach ]

I see what you are saying but the qb2 situation was no working fine. What if it is a shootout and we had to score on KBs first 2 drives to win the game? We would never know till we got a L and I know they all say we can take an L and still make it to the playoff but I wouldn't bet on it this year with our schedule. Plus the offense needs to be getting into a routine with the same qb, same arm, same poise, same hand off , etc. We need to be ready for a complete game and a well oiled unstopaple machine if we want to win the natty. It would have been nice to have back KB in the back pocket in case T Law got banged up or slipped up as a freshly but there was a much bigger picture here. I know that technically keeping KB was best for the team now but Dabo was doing what's best for the program because this was the best message ever to the recruits. They see that Clemson will do what's right as a human being and an athlete. Give them every tool in the box mentally and physically and THEN some. KB had every opportunity and more to own this team and the qb position but fell short on 4th and inches. It is what it is but look at JH and Alabama. If he trys to transfer Saban will dog him and drag his career through the mud instead of letting the huMAN go and do what's best for his family. Either way, I wish the best for KB and he will be missed. Go Tigers!!!

Sep 26, 2018, 11:38 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Full Swinney statement and comments on Bryant transfer ]

the only bad thing about this situation is the distraction, but from a football standpoint we'll be more explosive offensively and now have a shot at a national title.

If TL goes down with an injury..........well, we weren't winning a National Title without him anyway even had bryant stayed.

as long as dabo can get the team to look past the distraction that this has caused we're golden.

Clemson players Love KB... Some will look at TL as the reason for this.. right or wrong... I see it already with how other players interact with him on the sideline... This is going to get bad before it gets better.... Wait and see...

What are the seniors saying? Hunter R will have to lead this offense when he is playing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So, Trevor should have "held back"

Sep 26, 2018, 12:10 PM

I can see how you could view it that way....but I look at it as the receivers are quickly going to find out how good TL is (if they haven't already). They'll be more than happy to rally around him when he continues throwing them balls like he has so far. The only way this is going to effect our WRs is by increasing their stats and getting them more recognition from NFL scouts. They might be disappointed now but they won't be for long.

Sep 26, 2018, 11:48 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Full Swinney statement and comments on Bryant transfer ]

TL won the job, so the job is his now. If Dabo let Kelly start just because he's a grad student and has been here longer, that would not be fair to TL and we owe him a fair shot. He could have gone anywhere, but he chose Clemson because he knew he would get an honest chance to play and win the qb job. Dabo is a man of his word.

It's obvious TL should have been starting ahead of KB and Dabo confirmed it this week. KB, who will never play a single snap in the NFL could have chosen to be a major contributor on a contending Clemson Tiger team for the National Championship, the school that educated him for FREE. He could have chosen to be a team player.

He has chosen otherwise.

Sep 26, 2018, 5:15 PM

I get that you're unhappy with Kelly's decision to transfer in how it affects Clemson's chances of winning a national championship. From that standpoint it sucks.

For student athletes, this isn't just about sports, it's their financial livelihoods and careers at stake. He may never play in the NFL, but that's not for certain yet. Kelly made the best decision for himself, and at the end of the day, the fact that he made a decision that doesn't somehow suit your best interests as a fan doesn't make it a wrong decision.

The people who are being selfish are fans like you who expect these kids to give up on their own personal goals to suit your egotistical need to see a sports team win.

Think about that.

Re: TNET: Full Swinney statement and comments on Bryant transfer

Sep 26, 2018, 12:52 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Full Swinney statement and comments on Bryant transfer ]

Actually, I feel even stronger support for our team, our couch and TL than ever before.

I wish KB the best, but I feel that he not only let us down but he is letting himself down by making a poor, impulsive decision based purely on emotion.

There was a major role for him to play in the remainder of this season if he was willing to step up and accept the challenge. All he did by leaving in the way that he did rather than redshirting and staying with the team for the rest of the year in a supportive capacity was highlight that he is entirely out for himself and doesn't possess the quality of character that we all thought he did.

Apparently, he's under some delusion that he is Russel Wilson and that he is transfer is going to play out like that. For his sake, I certainly hope that it does because he just burned his bridges at Clemson, which is a family that would have certainly taken care of him going forward to reward his loyalty if he had stayed through this tough time.

At this point, I don't even care if we go 8-4 due to TL being a true freshmen, getting rattled or this whole drama affecting him. I support this team, this coach and I think that Kelly Bryant obviously didn't belong here in the first place if such a low bar of adversity is all it took for him to decide to not only leave CU, but to trash talk it and the coaches on his way out.

Thanks for all you did KB. But he should understand that other teams and coaches will also be a little leery of him based on the way he left Clemson and the fact that he make publicly distasteful statements on his way out.

Re: TNET: Full Swinney statement and comments on Bryant transfer

Sep 26, 2018, 11:39 AM

Coach makes a good point, at it being the QB position is why this is kind of gotten out of hand. Where other position spots are taken over all the time do you think Trevion T liked having Justyn Ross and Diondre coming in and taking the rolls, even though he is the upper class man?

Yes Kelly did many good things last year, but last year was just good, a lot of those games we barely won. and got beaten by an injured Syracuse team and demolished by a Bama team.

He will do just fine else where, and we have to mature and move on as Clemson nation.

Guys, this has been going on for more than this week. Dabo is smart. By not playing him and letting him know early this gets him outta the locker room and away from the team. We don’t need a bad apple in the basket. Let’s remember how he handled the Belk situation. He’s pretty crafty when it comes to this

Sep 26, 2018, 11:48 AM

Not a TL cheerleader, I am all about TEAM. If my teammate can better help us win, I'm supporting him. If my coach who cares about me enough to show how vulnerable he is to the whole CFB nation says this is his decision then I'll ride it out. He will regret this decision. PRIDE is before a crash. Very sad for him. Redshirt, work at DB, work at WR, work as an assistant coach with a Head Coach future, work, work, work. This is immaturity and it will cost him. Only he wont figure it out for some time. The leaders will rally this team.
Go Tigers!!!

Re: TNET: Full Swinney statement and comments on Bryant transfer

Sep 26, 2018, 11:53 AM

CB ceiling is not as high as TL, we all can clearly see that. In the same breath, TL game IQ is not close to KB. KB have the highs and low's of college football, so far TL just have the high's. I do believe TL will do great things at CU and truly hope he get us through this. I have surfed the threads today and all against KB, well I am not (although to be selfish) I wish he had stayed. I don't know if he have NFL aspirations but I am certain he have personal ones and to boot he have a CU degree. I just wish he would think and stay, even if he don't play. This way he could have a full year to play elsewhere and give us time to get CB ready as a backup. Just my opinion.

** Stop bashing him for his life choices, we didn't say much when HJ, ZC or TI transferred **

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No one is "bashing" KB...

Sep 26, 2018, 12:03 PM

… he has made his decision and is now going to have to live with it. Many of us who have been around a while understand that KB thinks he is acting in self interest when in fact he is burning serious life bridges unnecessarily.

Re: TNET: Full Swinney statement and comments on Bryant transfer

Sep 26, 2018, 12:07 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Full Swinney statement and comments on Bryant transfer ]

HJ returned home, has potential to play at the next level, needs reps in order to get better and market himself, understood that his next three years of eligibility would be better spent somewhere where he could actually get behind center, and never worked under the shadow of a future NFL talent.
ZC just wanted to play football and knew he would not break the depth chart with the talent around him.
TI graduated, had no strong aspirations of playing on the next level, was never going to break the depth chart, and shouldn't even be mentioned.
KB was a LEADER of this team and that was not going to change until he decided to make it official. His loss hurts this team in ways the others can not. If you don't understand this then you never played, or spent significant time around a TEAM sport.
In addition, you don't know much about life or bashing, because I never bashed the young man. And I standby the statement: He will regret this decision for the rest of his life. Clemson is unlike any other University, He's too deep in, He'll never find a replacement. FACTS

Sep 26, 2018, 12:15 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Full Swinney statement and comments on Bryant transfer ]

When HJ, ZC, and TI transferred, none of them took cheap shots on the way out the door. Kelly's comments show his immaturity. I am truly disappointed in him.

Congratulations on your first post. Keep it positive. It's all about the Tigers... not an individual.

Dabo said it himself he would work with him. He would at least be able to practice with a team and stay polished for his final year elsewhere. Seems like a bad decision. But I still like and respect the guy, it’s a tough pill to swallow and I doubt I would have handled things well at 22 years old.

I am so glad we have Dabo as our coach

Sep 26, 2018, 5:24 PM

Dabo has once again done his job with integrity and class. He is truly running a business. I have run manufacturing operations employing up to 300+ people for most of my adult life and see a lot of parallels to this situation. Demoting or firing an employee is one of a Manager’s most difficult tasks, especially if you have worked side by side with a person and developed a relationship. Usually this is only done after you have counseled the employee and given them opportunity to improve. This is exactly what Dabo did by starting Kelly the first 4 games. If Dabo does not make this decision based on facts and performance then he is not doing his job. And yes it hurts when you have to do it if you have any compassion or empathy even when you know it is the right decision.

Dabo and KB - Love you both. Hope this works out as well as it possibly can for everyone.

When I looked at the recruits coming in after CU won the Natty in the 2016 season, I told my son we can have another before 2020. Yes I know it takes luck, health and talent but now that I've seen TL (albeit limited) and the rest of the recruits playing now, I'm getting excited at where and how far this team can go this year. We may have 2 more by 2020. Although KB did a great job for CU, I had no visions of us making it past maybe a first round CFP game this year. Now with TL starting, it feels like the dust is going to get blown off some of the playbook pages and the future is bright.
