Clemson QB signee selected on MLB draft second day
Clemson quarterback and right-handed pitcher/shortstop signee Bubba Chandler (Bogart, Ga.) was selected with the 72nd overall pick in the third round of the MLB draft on Monday. TigerNet’s David Hood reported late Sunday through sources to expect prominent signees like Chandler or Will Taylor to hav Read Update » |

Excuse me for my ignorance of this draft process. Is he gone or is there any chance he stays?

I think this was a dart throw by Pit. They drafted 2 other HS guys before him who they have presumably already struck deals with, so the money is going to be tight.
He’ll go at the top of the first round after he comes here and they realize he’s southern Ohtani and he’ll make 2-3x what they’re offering right now.

And also, football might wind up being his passion, so maybe he excels there and takes the NFL route. No better place to play QB than Clemson.

Agreed, they’re going to prioritize either him or the HS outfielder they took the rd prior, who also happens to be a Penn St football commit. They can’t afford both, and will be forced to go over slot for just one of them.

I’m not well versed on the process either and have no idea to be honest but judging by Pirates fans/writers on Twitter, they feel good about him signing. Supposedly they were one of the few times that would have the kind of money to get him past the 1st and 2nd rounds. I’m not sure what will happen and can’t blame the kid if he does sign. Congrats to him but hope he remains a Tiger

I think he’s coming to Clemson… wants to run down the hill and play under the lights in DV, win a CFP title, then help take us to Omaha pulling an Ohtani by pitching/playing the field + raking. He and Taylor will be giants here.

Wish him the best either way but is a bigger loss for our baseball them than our football team.

Absolutely I was wanting him way more for baseball than football. We already lost the catcher. Need more pitching.

Yeah Qualk on WCCP thinks he’s gone too. So I guess we will see. I was hoping he would love to stay but I heard he’s even changed is Instagram account to pirates stuff. Don’t have Instagram but that’s what I hear.

Yep it does, but I sure would have given NIL a try for a few years with Will. Will and Bubba Show! doe some sort of Baseball/football combo for YouTube or for some company! But I guess that is mute point.

If he is gone, I hope he likes riding buses and playing in small town America for a few years.
If he were to come to Clemson, there's a chance he would get to play football with the best and then improve his draft stock and make several times more money. It would be a mistake to go the baseball route, but it's his life, not mine.

Well honestly I’d do that for about a 3 mil signing bonus. That’s the rumor about what he wanted. Money is hard to pass up.

It can't be likely that they'll give him the signing bonus of someone going at #15-20 rather than the third round, right?

Doubt he gets $3M outta the Pirates. They’re a cheap organization who don’t even pay the guys they have now. Good luck to him and I wish him nothing but the best. I hope he enjoyed his short time and n Clemson.

The Twitter post with him shaking hands tells us he’s going to the Pirates to ride the bus for only 3 million or so.
I can’t blame him, if he saves the money it will be a big advantage over others starting out.
Good luck Bubba! We need ya but we know baseball is your passion!
Go gett’em Tiger!

I hate it just a much as the next guy but I don’t think bashing him will make you feel better. I think he’s short changing himself too but he’s got it in his head that this is his path. If I was to bash anything I wish he wasn’t going to the Pirates. They’re a pretty bad organization when it comes to prioritizes. I couldn’t tell you the last time they won a playoff series (this bs wild card game stuff doesn’t count). I tried looking it up but there record started to depress me and I’m not even a Pirates fan. It did say they’ve been to the playoffs 17 times in there 116 year history. ??

I just read a story from Charlotte that said Bubba is signing with MLB and Will Taylor is coming to Clemson.

MLB will always be there. Get your education, because you wont be able to play forever. College is a better place for training; there are 2nd and 3rd chances to make it. The exp you will get at Clemson will always be with you
