Clemson gets a bad rap from the poll voters because they were not great in the first half . Big 10 teams always get a pass. Clemson beat the spread by7 or 8 points.
Just wake up pollsters before the end of the season.

Yeah but other teams are beating the spread by halftime and using backups the entire 4th quarter. We are at the point that we have to keep our starters in all game to cover

AP poll is biased for the big markets.

Sep 6, 2022, 5:19 PM

Clemson doesn't have a big TV market... Michigan does...
I pay attention to the coaches poll.

The entire nation saw Clemson play last night, that’s the reason we dropped a spot.

If they didn’t have preseason rankings we’d be 10th-12th

Sep 6, 2022, 8:29 PM

Agreed. The whole college football world (including pollsters) that watched that game now has doubts about our team and our coaching staffs decision making ability. Why? Because they put in and kept in DJ. A fumble. A muffed snap. A delay of game penalty. Intentional grounding. On and on. Every one a drive killer against an unranked team that has won 9 games in the past 3 seasons.

Then you put in Cade and he is smooth as butter. He marches his 2nd and 3rd string supporting cast down the field he and throws for a TD. It was glorious.

Play the best player and let Clemson get back to being Clemson. Why is the obvious not obvious to the Clemson coaches?

I thought they would bounce us out of the top 10 after the first half. Can’t complain I don’t think we can compete with the 4 teams ahead of us right now. Regardless of how good the defense is eventually the offense has to make plays

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Clemson drops in latest AP Top 25

With DJ taking the snaps, we most likely can't keep up with any of the other teams in the top 10 of the AP pole!!!

This is spot-on. And I am the last person to ##### about the polls this early in the season. But Colorado State is terrible and is in a G5 conference. Yeah, there are some good teams in the MWC, but CSU was 3-9 last year, matching Georgia Tech's 3-win season, and lost their last six.

Now someone tell me what is more impressive, beating Colorado State 51-7 at home or beating Georgia Tech 41-10 in Atlanta.

BC there are about 20-25 teams listed in the D-1 power 5 conferences only bc of conference affiliation. If they voted on who were the real power 5 teams in each conference, the ACC won't have more than 3 or 4 teams voted in, and that's giving a couple the benefit of doubt!!!

I’d say fair enough until we look sharp on offense. Georgia, however, is the one who should be complaining. Clearly # 1 material before Bama’s win over a cupcake. Not that any of this matters this early but no way Bama deserves #1.

Re: TNET: Clemson drops in latest AP Top 25

Sep 6, 2022, 2:40 PM

So I never evaluate the game while I am watching it because I want Clemson to win soooo bad. But after watching the replay today here is what I think: 1) I see no difference between a Caldwell coached OF line and an Austin coached OL why can't they be tougher ? Come on Dabo, you always say the best person will play, Ukaleleh either stared down his receivers or looked like he was on dancing with the stars on his passes. I don't care if he has worked the hardest in fall camp, I don't care if he has been the most vocal or the leader he does not have the tools to compete. Build him up all you want but playing for all but one series and going 19-32 with 209 yards and Klubnik plays one series and goes 6-9 and 50 yards and a TD does that not tell you something ? Evidently not !!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Clemson drops in latest AP Top 25

Sep 6, 2022, 2:53 PM

I wish we would attract the top talent on the OL like we seem to be able to do on the DL. That would make a world of difference.

We do not lack talent on OL ...we are loaded with guys who

Sep 6, 2022, 3:08 PM

had lots of big time offers. We have a ton of talent on OL.

Ga Tech’s DL was huge. Maybe not Bresee talented, but big and strong. Hard to just shove around. I though other than a few times when our true freshman RT let his guy get by him on the edge, the OL performed very well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: We do not lack talent on OL ...we are loaded with guys who

Sep 6, 2022, 7:00 PM

I agree that we are talented but there is a difference between being talented and being elite. Our DL is definitely elite and I wish our OL was at that level. I think the trenches may be where you see the biggest difference between a 4* and a 5* recruit in terms of ability and execution. The better Big 10 and SEC teams seem to dominate when it comes to recruiting 5* OL men and I'd just like to see us win some of those recruiting battles for the best of the best.

Sep 6, 2022, 2:57 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Clemson drops in latest AP Top 25 ]

I think Cade will eventually be the starter but I also don't mind him coming in and getting his feet wet in the first 3 games before we hand him the reins. Let him get really comfortable and confident so the moment isn't too big for him. Clearly, it wasn't too big in the first game during mop-up duty but I do hope they let him get a few series with the ones in the next couple of games while the outcome is still in doubt. Let him feel that pressure and deal with it against inferior competition before we get into the meat of our schedule.

We have a QB that doesn’t get rid of the ball in 2.7 seconds or less. Part of it is decision-making but the other part is not giving him an outlet (TE, RB) while receivers are running routes 15-30 yards down the field on 3rd and 3.

People don’t understand that even the best OLs can’t block forever.

Re: TNET: Clemson drops in latest AP Top 25

Sep 7, 2022, 1:37 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Clemson drops in latest AP Top 25 ]

It tells Dabo everything he knew before the kick off, but DJ will have to really screw up before Dabo will hand the ball to Cade. If Dabo hadn't known for a fact that he may be force to play Cade, Cade would have never gotten a pass play call bc they wouldn't want anybody seeing how good he was, but Dabo wants that known just in case DJ forces his hand to give Cade the FB, and if that happens Dabo will start talking about how he hope that DJ would have put it all together. If not for that, Cade would have had to hand the ball of on the only series he got to play!!! We do have one of the best HCs in college FB, but you better believe that he is as stubborn as they come once he has made his decision!!!

I hope Wake, NCS, FSU, and Miami all stay undefeated, and ND doesn't lose any more, until we play them, giving us 5 opportunities to knock off 5 ranked teams. That would be pretty impressive if it happened. And if Pitt would happen to make it to the ACC championship, that could be our 6th ranked team.

Tigers won. That's what matters. An early loss IE Ohio State last year hurts no matter the team.

At this juncture the polls don't really matter. It's not like the team won and dropped to 22nd or something. If they win out for the rest of the month and play a ranked NCST team they can start to slowly climb the polls again. At this juncture though no need to look ahead or worry about the polls. The back half of the schedule is tough enough for this squad to earn their respect when they get there.

For now on to Furman. Hope to see the rest of y'all there even if it's calling for light rain on Saturday.

Re: TNET: Clemson drops in latest AP Top 25

Vanillalite - Exactly!

The only reason you have teams ranked now is for TV ratings and sports talk shows. I think GT is going to outplay their current perception.
I think as the season goes on and they win ball games; we will look back and go: "quality win"!

For now though, as someone pointed out the whole country saw Clemson struggle for a half with a team that isn't perceived to be good!

We will be better and GT will be better than people think!

For now, it really doesn't matter! Just keep winning and the rest takes care of itself.

Go Tigers!

Polls in September are for Strippers anyway!

Regarding the rankings - I like the commentator's (whose name escapes me) idea that there should be no rankings before October. They really are meaningless right now. With all the hype about their recruiting (and NIL), Texas A&M is going to be the greatest team in the SEC and thus get the #1 ranking this year - right? Just as Jumbo.
