Other than Barlow, who went to Florida ( I suspect with a healthy paycheck), the other players from the team that went to the portal are not big losses. Barlow would have been a starter again next year and maybe would have pushed for a weekend spot, but Hall and Nawrocki will not be missed. Good luck the rest of the Tiger team is moving on.

Barlow probably didn't see a path for weekend or probably not mid-week. Not with Tallent (which I assume is coming back- info on him is like pulling teeth), and Samol healthy and the pitching trio freshman this cycle... coupled with LeGuernic, McGovern (who could push for a weekend spot) . So,

I get Hall who is from Lexington but not Nawrocki who is from New York. We will not miss Hall but Nawrocki started 34 games and will be missed.

And it's actually extremely unlikely he would have been able to start at DH either now that we have Gaffney and Priest, because that's presumably where one of them will play. I think it would be crazy to start Nolan over either of them. And that's nothing against the guy, it's just that the other two are both freshman All-Americans who should both be elite hitters. The only way it could've possibly worked is if Bakich put Gaffney back at catcher full-time, which I don't think was ever in the cards. His primary position now is 1st base by far, and I think they'll be much more comfortable with him there defensively. It should also benefit his hitting by taking some stress off because catcher is a very demanding position, and it tends to carry a greater injury risk. You could also make the argument that he should start over Purify, but if Bakich wasn't even willing to do that last year I don't see any way that would happen in the future unless Jarren just falls off a cliff. So it seemed almost certain that he'd be relegated to a bench role if he stayed, and for that reason I can understand his decision to transfer. (Although I wish it could've been to somewhere else.)

Has Clemson ever taken a transfer from UofSC? I honestly can't remember it happening in any sport, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's happened at least once. Sure seems like it's a one-way street though, doesn't it? I'm not complaining though; if Clemson bench players are consistently transferring to SC to get playing time that pretty much tells you all you need to know about where the 2 programs are relative to each other.
