I have seen this a lot but do not know the story behind it. I asked on another thread and got a TD which makes me think it's a sensitive topic, but I genuinely missed the boat on the origin. TIA

Before Brownell was the winningest coach in Clemson Basketball history, Mike Patrick referred to him by this name during televised broadcasts. Patrick would never make that mistake in year 14...after CBB has become the winningest coach in Clemson Basketball history. Respect.

Mike Patrick maybe, called him Brownlee in the beginning of his Clemson career. It stuck with Tnet, until he became Brown-L, or Brad, or Bradsketball. Or broWneLL 1-W, 2-Ls

This is correct ... the only unknown is if Patrick was drunk when he said it.***

Patrick kept calling him Brownlee during the game. Maybe 15 times during the game. No one stopped him and he was acting like he and brownlee were close friends. It was hilarious.

In his defense he was probably drunk.

I always took it as a term of disrespect by those who don't like him.
