Question for those in the medical field smarter than I. What good does COVID-19 testing do?
A person can be tested and get a negative result and be exposed to the virus in the next 5 minutes. A positive test does not tell us anything, it could be from a person with very mild symptoms but is grouped with people in intensive care at a hospital.
It seems that the focus should be treatments and a vaccine. These two elements would allow us to get to some level of normal.

Can you imagine the ticket takers at Death Valley doing this drill? Would kinda take away from the game day experience, no?

Testing is relatively useless and just a red herring from the media. When this virus hit America the world thought it might have afatality rate of around 2-4%. That turned out to be completely false and the true fatality rate is more like.2-.4%. There is essentially no risk to people under 60 (at least, no more risk than you deal with on a daily basis living life normally). However, the modern news cycle and social media have created an environment where hysteria and refusal to admit we were wrong is more important than reality. So now they push testing and tracing and all types of other ideas that are pointless. We will hit herd immunity far before a vaccine is released and there’s nothing we can do about it.

As long as I can watch at home, I'll be happy. Just keep these kids safe and don't ruin their careers by not letting them play.

Their goal is to get a college degree unless they are among the select few that can actually make a living playing football.

people make a decision to bring students back much less have sports. You can basically write off the 2020 season unless it is played January to April which I doubt.

Perhaps, if those responsible for making decisions want to live in hysteria and ignore the science. Young people are not at risk of this virus and it’s better for society if schools are open and young people help build up society’s natural herd immunity.

I'm late to the thread, but let me open by saying welcome to the real world of "big brother". It's been coming, but we just leapt beyond the threshold with our reaction to this virus. (It's an appropriate time for any intelligent person to re-read Orwell's "1984"...) Any illness, and especially a death, is a sorrow and a tragedy. But few will admit, or even recognize the fact that death is the most significant and meaningful fact of life. But I'll leave that to the philosophers. Let's look at a few conservative numbers:
The bubonic plague (Black Death) in the 14th cent. killed about 30% of the "known world" population. The survivors never stopped working, they simply did what they had to do... to survive. It came back time-and-time again, but with far, far fewer fatalities each time. It's still out there and occasionally causes havoc.
The potato famine in Ireland (mid 19th cent.) killed approx. 12.5% of the population. Many of those who survived did so by eating grass and iron rich soil, ie.: dirt. The will and determination to survive.... and nobody actually stopped working to do so.
The "Spanish Flu", c.1918, killed approx. 3-4% of the world population at the time, at least 54 mil. Nobody actually stopped working "just because".... there were no "stimulus checks".
Covid 19: total world pop. approximately 7.8 billion; approximate cases: 5 MM(+/-) = 0.06% of total pop.; death rate of those tested positive, about 10% = 0.0065% of total world population.
God bless any and all those who have suffered during this pandemic. Life goes on, let's just hope Big Brother stays out of our effort to carry on.

What a bunch of cr**. Look, if restaurants, hotels and general businesses are open and operating without significant issue, they aren’t going to be able to keep schools (colleges) from reopening. At that point all sports will go on as well. The hype artists are starting to lose control - these academics just don’t know it yet.

It's supposed to be about flattening the curve and most places have done that so the hospitals don't get overwhelmed. I think the curve will be pretty flat everywhere by August and those that feel vulnerable have the choice to do what they want and the general population will be more than ready to go about their lives with common sense caution. SPOT THE BALL!

The NCAA is doing a nice job in trying to get ready for the next school year but the fact remains that if any school reports a new case on any athletic team, the spiral to shutdown will be on.

... just wait until “someone” taints the tests (which already are not reliable) and Clemson has to play with only 60% of our players due to a false “outbreak”.
The whole system will be ripe for corruption.
