The Chads Promise to Deshaun Watson (Remember)
Nov 28, 2014, 2:34 PM
|
|
Recruiting is a vicious cycle that intertwines what a player and their family wants to hear/know with what a recruiter (Morris) can provide. While Morris was recruiting Watson he made a promise to this young man that if Watson chose Clemson then Morris would stay for the long haul.
As a man of integrity, which I believe Morris to be, I feel that a sacred bond is broken if Morris decides to void his spoken word to Watson. With the moral structure that has been built at Clemson this promise if broken will discredit Chad's ability to have any substance behind truth.
What's Real: Chad Morris promised Deshaun Watson that if recruited he will stay. Deshaun Watson believed those words and came to Clemson.
A mans word is all that he has. We will get to see what Morris is.
"We talked about that last night, too," Watson said. "He said if a big-time program comes calling that's better than Clemson, he can't pass that up. If he goes there, I'll go with him. But he said it has to be one where they can contend for a national championship. But I'm enrolling early and he said if I already have my papers in, he'll stay until I graduate. He said he's a guy that stays true to his word like he did with Tajh (Boyd). I trust coach Morris.

It doesnt...lol One would have to be a complete fool to turn that down. Most people dream their entire lives of earning that kind of salary. To have the chance to earn that kinda cash in my home state...Yeah

Cue up "can't blame a guy for thinking about his money/family" first. Clemson isn't his "real" family.

on the table, but I hear ya, man. Back to his home state, alot more money, less pressure if you ask me, and a head coaching job to see how he enjoys the experience of being the guy.

If true, it is a promise that should never have been made.

No one should expect an OC to pass on a head coaching position just to coach a special player.

I guess that was just for the 1st year to get him there. Watson also said he was 100% Clemson regardless, a recruit should be committed to the SCHOOL...not a person or coach.

Chad didn't have 3 mil a year waving him in the face at that point. And Watson must be abut as naive as one can be if he believes a coach when he makes those types of promises. No one knows what the future holds.

Wives/husbands divorce you, kids grow up and move away, gravity and time take care of your body, money is spent or lost in investments or maybe just consumed on survival, cars, clothing and houses just wear out, even life gives out eventually.
When you die you leave everything behind. The wives, kids and government get it all. They sell, spend and spend until it's all gone. The don't spend your integrity, it survives and thrives in them. The example you've set for your children goes on and on.

A coach overpromised to get a recruit: Everything I thought I knew about college football has been shattered beyond recognition.
