Apples to Oranges honestly. Parker is more of a true DE where Mykel is more of a OLB/DE hybrid. Different players in different systems who are being asked to do different things on a play to play basis. Mykel is typically an upright guy who will rush and also drop into zone and when he is down it's in a 3 man front not a 4 man, parker is typically down every play.

Not really. Still 1 of 11 and part of the front 7.

Each with 2 passes defended. Production is the point.

Numbers don't paint the whole picture with defensive players, they arent wide receivers. Trevon Walker had half the production Hutchinson had but scouts liked Walker better in the draft and he went #1 overall. It's about playing the role set for you in a system.

Agree. Also, who were the opponents? An SEC team or an ACC team?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

All of those teams were playing catch up with everyone knowing they were

throwing the football.

So, rushing the passer, making tackles and defending passes are NOT what

they want from him?

Good to know.

This from Kirby Smart yesterday contradicts you guys.

“I don’t know where that’s coming from. He’s not really at a new position. All the things he did last year, he’s done this year. He worked last year at outside linebacker in individual period and he worked with the defensive line. Those two are like a mirror. They almost share the same responsibilities. So he’s done the same thing this year that he did last year. I think that’s more of a souped up answer that he’s playing a different position. He’s not really playing a different position. He’s got the versatility to be able to go out and be an outside linebacker because he’s a really good athlete. He can cover and play people, but one of his best, most rewarding qualities is his rush, and we want him to be able to rush.”

Panic is right, it's apples to oranges. First off, despite the same number of games, TJ played probably 75-100 more snaps than Mykel did last year. UGA led the country in 3rd down conversions allowed, and 3rd down % allowed. Clemson probably gave up 25-30% more 3rd down conversions than UGA. And UGA subs a LOT on the DL. Also as Panic mentioned, the two play different schemes. Mykel plays mostly 2-gap, and has more edge responsibility than TJ, who plays mostly 1-gap.

No, they want him to do his job on any given down. Tell me you don’t understand the way Kirby plays defense without telling me.

How did that decision work out the Jags? Not well. Hutchinson is the better player, more productive in college and more productive as a pro. At the end of the day, production matters. I don't understand some NFL teams that think they have the magic key that will unlock production especially when playing against better competition.

Pretty well I would say, they’ve gone from 22nd to 9th in rush defense in the 2 years since the drafted Walker.

Myles Murphy was surprisingly good his freshman year and ended up a first round draft pick last year. While I didn't think he played with the same tenacity his Jr year, he was still good. I thought there would be long time before we saw a true freshman as good as MM but TJ is better and I think he has a bigger upside. If TJ stays healthy, he could be one of our all time greats at Clemson.

Myles Murphy was not good his jr year. I don’t see Parker falling off. Different attitudes.

true. Murphy took a lot of plays off.

Seems silly.

I have my opinion. As you can see from the responses, not everyone is

of the same opinion for the reasons they mention. Plus, I doubt many fans were aware of the statistical similarity given the hype surrounding both players.

It's a discussion board, silly.

SEC bias. I think the pundits believe the competition might be better in the SEC---which may have something to do with it. On the other hand, I think Parker has more game impact than Williams---teams have to play around Parker. Just my own $0.02 worth
