Yup.
This really helps Clemson far more than other schools because now they can play guys as much as they want and as opportunity arises...and not have to worry about burning eligibility.
Because Clemson plays so many more people than other schools, definitely Advantage Clemson.

It's possible. He does have a lot of catching up to do. Too early to tell. I don't think Dabo wants to encourage too many 6 year players. Really messes up you class sizes.

A guy like Albert Huggins would have be awesome for us had he had 1 more year and was the starter. We could have used him.

I don't think Ajou Ajou is going to last 6 years.
Just IMHO, being really raw doesn't slow you down that much in college. You're better off with the athlete. There's a handful of really, really good players who got years of solid fundamental coaching in high school who are very prepared to make an impact on the college ranks...these are the guys who don't need to redshirt and can come in right away. This can shave 1-2 years off their usual development time.
But sometimes you find a physical mutant (Ajou Ajou is one) and you just can't pass on him no matter how raw he is. But because college coaching is so much better and more intensive than high school coaching, it really only takes a raw kid 1-2 years to catch up with the skill level a guy might have achieved in 4 years of high school. And it can sometimes produce an even better result because raw players are a blank slate...with no bad habits. Practice, as they say, doesn't make perfect, it actually makes permanent...which means that the rawer players don't have the bad habits to un-learn that a lot of high school players (especially high school players with large egos) might have.
Ajou Ajou has the ability (and then some) to be a 3-year guy, if he had been more polished coming out of high school. Because he's so raw Clemson might get four out of him, and getting a fifth would likely mean he just didn't develop to what is obviously massive talent.
How often does that happen at Clemson, especially at WR, with our staff? Our raw young guys play, a lot. They develop. They usually show dramatic improvement before the first year is even done.

In a normal year yes, but this year doesn't count towards eligibility. It is a mulligan so to speak, and any playing time is a bonus and an inspiration/motivation to work harder. Now if we could land some new commits to fire me up a little cause I sure ain't as excited as I normally am for football.

I suppose you could say everyone receives a red shirt this year.

deroberts. I was thinking over his career, as in next season. He doesn't look remotely ready. I, like everyone, knows about Covid and eligibility. I can see him redshirting next year as raw as he looks.

So how does the redshirt rule work this year
Sep 21, 2020, 9:22 AM

Everybody stays in the same class and your Freshman squad doubles? Or does everyone move along and if and when they get to be a senior they can be a senior twice?
I think it matters a lot when counting scholarships.

It is interesting. It will make an interesting NFL draft possibly.
