Todays player spotlight is #52 Elyjah Thurmon. He is a sophomore offensive lineman for the Clemson Tigers.
He is a “Mississippi native who finished his prep career in Georgia before signing with the Tigers in 2024 … enters 2025 after playing 146 snaps from scrimmage over eight games (one start) in his freshman season in 2024.”.
Elyjah was “Rated as a four-star offensive lineman by a majority of recruiting services … listed as On3’s No. 224 overall prospect, as well as the nation’s 13th-best interior lineman and the 30th-best prospect in Georgia … ranked by ESPN as the nation’s 19th-best guard and 47th overall prospect in Georgia … projected as a tackle by Rivals, which ranked him as the 23rd-best offensive tackle in the nation and as Georgia’s 36th-best overall prospect … credited with 51 pancakes/takedowns as a senior while allowing only four hurries … selected to the Under Armour All-America Game and the Polynesian Bowl … named MVP of the Crafting Lineman camp as well as the Big Man 5v5 Lineman Camp … also competed in basketball and track and field … played for Deshon Brock at Bradwell.”.
He “Averaged 16.2 ppg and 13.4 ppg on the hardwood as a 11th grader. That’s after averaging 10.9 ppg and 9.2 rpg as a 10th grader
Posted a personal-best 41-0 effort in the shot put as a junior.”.
He had offers from Duke, Florida, LSU, and USuCk.
In his freshman season last year he “Played 146 snaps from scrimmage over eight games (one start) … played 31 snaps in his collegiate debut vs. Appalachian State … played 16 snaps in Clemson’s 59-point effort vs. NC State … played eight snaps vs. Stanford … played 13 snaps at Wake Forest … played three snaps vs. Virginia … garnered high postgame praise from Dabo Swinney for stepping in for an injured Tristan Leigh at Virginia Tech and performing well in 74 snaps … made his first career start at Pitt but suffered a season-ending injury on his first and only snap of the game.”.
This is what Dabo had to say about Elyjah: “He is truly a kid that can play all five positions, and he's done that. He played center in high school, he's played guard, he's played left tackle, right tackle," “He's very smart. Really the game comes naturally to him. He's athletic, he's big and strong. Way ahead of what a typical freshman is," “He's going to really be a good football player. I think it's very important to him. He's physical. All you've got to do is watch him run. Like I said, he runs a lot of times like a D-lineman, and he's really athletic,".
Elyjah was “Born May 9, 2006 … committed to Clemson during the early signing period on Dec. 20, 2023 strong high school student who posted a 4.2 GPA and was also a member of National Honor Society, Health Occupations Students of America, Future Farmers of America and Future Business Leaders of America … enrolled at Clemson in January 2024 … sociology major.”.

My Central rec little league team, the "Termites", and coach bought general admission tickets for $1 and sat on the hill after checking out the floats on Bowman.
Running back Mike "Smiley" Sanders would later be an English teacher and assistant football and baseball coach at Daniel High School when I was there in the late 70s. He would become principal in the mid 80s.
52 years ago seems like yesterday sometimes and a lifetime ago others. Thanks for the memories CBProf®. You do a great job with these stories.
