Bud Saunders resigns mid-season! Clemson fans everywhere were probably clapping.
- The final lap (or half-lap) for the Bud Saunders! And one more (albeit brief) round for a previous head coach!
Overview:
According to Wikipedia:
“The Tigers were led by fourth-year head coach Bud Saunders for the first four game of the season, before he resigned. Bob Williams, who has previously served as the team's head coach in 1906, 1909, and from 1913 to 1915, replaced Saunders the final five games of the season. Clemson compiled and overall record of 2–7 with a mark of 1–3 in conference play, placing 18th in the SoCon.”

The Bud Sauders era began with a 5-2-1 record in 1923 and went downhill from there. Between 1923-1926, his record at Clemson was 10-17-1. (In other words, half of his wins came in his first year.)
As mentioned above, Bob Williams had previously served as Clemson’s Head Coach in 1906, 1909, and 1913-1915. During his time as Clemson Head Coach, Clemson had compiled a combined record of 21-14-6. Adding in the final five games (all losses) of 1926 brought his Clemson record down to 21-19-6.

Wikipedia adds the following about Bob Wiliams’ return and what he had been doing in between his times as Clemson Head Coach:
“Between the years of 1915 and 1926, Williams practiced law in Roanoke, Virginia, and was the city's mayor. He returned to coach Clemson for the final five games of the 1926 season.”

With the loss to the Gamechickens, Clemson’s lead in the series drops to a mere 15-8-1. All delusions Chickens who thought their program had finally caught up to Clemson had no idea what was just on the horizon!
Yesterday, clover65® pointed out that the 1-7 1925 Clemson team barely scored more than 3 points per game. It was definitely an interesting – and sad statistic. This season Clemson only scored 20 points in 9 games.
So what’s worse than barely scoring more than 3 points per game?
- Barely scoring more than 2 points per game!
