Re: School Colors and Uniforms

One of the hotly debated topics on the board over the past few years is that of uniforms. Some believe we should stick with the Good ole orange jersey's and white pants 'til actual championship time (ACC Champ game and National Championship game) and limit purple to military appreciation games only. Others believe we should break out the purple and white combo every now.

What would you want Clemson to do with the color purple? Would you banish the purple and stick to the colors of Orange and White since that seems to be our stick lately?

I witness a lot of people harass/dismiss other posters because their opinion differs from the current uniform trend of Orange and white with championship pants and all purple for military appreciation.

While there is nothing wrong with it (personally I like it too), but anytime someone mentions something different (like incoporating purple and white combos - I'm also a fan) they are told that it messes with tradition, might cause the players bad diarrhea/voodoo on game day, etc. And if we are discussing the "tradition" ...why does it matter or get someones goat when they mention another school color for a possibility of uniform combos?

Blind arrogance? Mistaking the orange 'bama scheme uniforms for school colors? Other players being too tall???

So what does the board think?

Oddly enough, I think the best looking uniform is the all white. I have, however, grown to appreciate the white jersey/orange pants uniform as an equal to the all white. I think that is due to the performance we had the first time we ever wore that combo (45-0 win in Columbia in 1989) and the fact that it is the combo that was worn while winning our second national championship.

As far as home uniforms, the best is the orange jersey/white pants. I love the all orange and appreciate them for what they mean, but I have never been a fan of the look. Again, I have great appreciation and understand their role in Clemson lore. I was a 17 year old kid sitting on the north corner of the hill when they were first introduced. I was in attendance when Clemson warmed up in white pants and arrived at the top of the hill in orange and then defeated South Carolina in an upset 27-6. I was also a freshman in attendance when they were worn again in a 13-3 defeat of Georgia. I was also in the Orange Bowl on January 1, 1982 when they were worn while winning the first national championship (How awesome it is to have to refer to national championships as the first or second). And though I do appreciate them, I think they should be worn rarely on special occasions.

AS for purple, I like it as trim. I can also remember a purple jersey/white pants combo that I thought looked sharp. I don't like the all purple at all and never have. The purple jersey and pants looked better when the uniform material was the old style and not the stretchy material that is used now. The purple jersey in 1991 looked much better because of the material. The stretch material does something bad to the visual of that color.

Road preference:
1. All white and white jersey/orange pants are a tie. I like them both equally
2. White jersey/purple pants

Home preference:
1. Orange Jersey/white pants
2. Purple jersey/white pants
3. All Orange
4. All Purple (should never be worn, use purple jersey /white pants to honor military)
