Think back to after winning the '18 natty. At no point during that offseason did we think, "man I sure hope Texas A&M doesn't try to buy our players away". Yet here I am reading a thread about player retention NIL (very well articulated, by whom I forget). And in no way is that a knock on Dabo for the program falling slightly. It's a knock on the state of college football where tampering is rampant and we have to fret about whether or not our true freshman stars will remain at Clemson despite the massive deals they'll be illegally offered from big money programs. This system is broken and needs to be fixed. If y'all have solutions for it let me hear but I doubt any real impactful change happens until the whole thing really blows up.

Last time I looked, there were something like 3700 football players in the portal. I rarely look, but clearly there are thousands.
To my knowledge, NO ONE has ever been officially accused of tampering, out of THOUSANDS of transfers EVERY YEAR.
I suggest that TAMPERING is not actually against the rules. Here’s why.
Any RULE that has NEVER been ENFORCED, is NOT A RULE AT ALL.

...somewhere that 25% of all NCAA football players or D1 Players were in the portal. 1 in 4 players were actively trying to leave their current program, that is unreal to me.

They could have easily beaten it if they sued there NCAA.
Just as Florida, Miami, and FSU were stupid to buckle to the NCAA about recruiting/NIL right before Tennessee fought back and won.
Only idiots are afraid if the NCAA now.

He said to his knowledge it has never been enforced, I provided information to help close that knowledge gap.
Its your opinion that they were stupid. Its unfounded opinion they could have won despite agreeing to the rule. You can even think the bylaw is stupid. Heck you can even believe its against the law, despite evidence to support such an assertion.
Doesnt change the reality that it IS a valid NCAA bylaw and it CAN get enforced (example above).

I doubt the NCAA will do anything butvtamperingbwas defined as "coaches" contacting players. I don't think there was anything about agents and cash cows.

I would agree that 99.99% of players who are enticed while enrolled to play for another school are being enticed by a 3rd party. That is currently not illegal and not tampering. Although I think there will be challenges mounted against that, when and how successful are TBD
Actual tampering done by an NCAA member institution is illegal, probably pretty rare and just plain stupid on their part. Of those rare instances, a very small fraction involve lose lips where the NCAA is getting involved and only some of those would we even hear about.

It is my understanding that most instances of Tampering are happening by third party. That is to say a University wants X player, and university reaches out to x players handler/former HS coach/ mamma/ daddy/ baby mamma/ uncle whatever and then develops a direct line to x player if there is interest. So lets look at this like Texas wants say one of Clemson's star Safeties.
In this example Texas reaches out to Clemson's player through the players old HS coach as the Texas staff has connections to that players coach. Texas then makes an NIL offer, and promises playing time, through the players old HS coach that reaches the Clemson player in an attempt to see if there is any interest. Said player then goes back to his old HS coach and says to let Texas know he is interested. The player can then either jump into the portal immediately, or approach the Clemson coaching staff to see if they can get more NIL money. Any part of the previous example that is similar in any regard to actual events is purely circumstantial.
The point is, will the old HS coach fess up if he is confronted? No, because he does not want to ruin the relationship he has with Texas. Is the player going to fess up? No, because he does not want to ruin the reputation of his old HS coach and he is probably going to at least consider it, even if it is just for a split second.

One point you are missing. These players have agents just like the pros. The players are not negotiating, its their agents.

If you are talking about someone like Cade, then yeah probably. But if you are talking about a 1st string OL from UCF, probably not, it just does not make sense. Most of these guys dont have agents per se, they have someone else like a former coach, uncle or handler acting on their behalf and communicating to the player.

Simple make everyone sit a year that wants to transfer. Simple rule that is legal and will mske these players think twice about wanting to leave every year. NCAA is a joke.

The NCAA lost pn that issue in the Ohio vs NCAA case. Athletes have the right to transfer without penalty just as does any other student.

If you went back to the old rules, you would have at least 20-30 court cases thrown at the NCAA. That is the whole reason they got rid of those requirements in the first place. Kids were threatening to sue over not being able to leave and the NCAA would have gone bankrupt trying to fight all of them.
