First of all iam a DIEHARD Clemson Tiger sports fan Football Basketball and Baseball in that order and iam a champion of Dabo Swinney but i feel its hypocritical of him to say players should not get paid yes he has paid his dues and deserves to get paid well but this is coming from a man that just signed a 100 million dollar contract .He received this contract based on the players he recruits and how they perform they put in the blood sweat and tears to make these colleges and universities and tge NCAA billions on top of billions of dollars i say give these student athletes a small stipend maybe between 100 and 200 dollars a week sure they are getting a quality education but they deserve more student athletes are not NORMAL students they have to work double time they are the ones making the schools money not the coaches if you can pay a coach 10 million dollars a year for yelling and screaming surely these athletes deserve a taste of tbe pie also afterall they are the ingredients and tgey do the cooking too without them thete wpuld be no coaching jobs .

I always thought that when an athlete accepted money for playing a sport he or she was automatically considered to be a professional athlete. Just ask Jim Thorpe. I’ll bet the majority of our football players eat $100,000 in food during their stay on campus. Plus if you pay football players, you’re going to have to pay all athletes. Some schools make a lot of money off of basketball. I bet if you tried to limit monetary payments to just football players the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals would stop you cold.

So getting a $60-$70k free ride for 4 years , a nice room with all the food and resources you could ever need isn’t enough? I get it, they are athletes, but my son’s tuition at Erskine College is $48k per year. You can see why I have no sympathy right?

ok, lets pay players. How much do you pay them? do they all get the same pay? Oh some are starters, so they get more? now what about Wake Forest?do they pay the same as Alabama? Alabama pays more? oh, no one is willing to play at WF. the rich can afford it and no other schools can. I always hear people talking about paying players but are these same people talking about how it gets done and where the money come from, and how much, etc.etc.etc...
lay out your plan.

1. Dabo isn't paid for yelling and screaming 2. The players receive stipends already 3. They're not treated as normal students as they get free education, clothing and school supplies, housing, tutoring, training, meals and supplementation etc.. 4. They're on their final preparation for becoming one of the highest paid employees in the country. Look at it kind of like residency programs... 5. Do we pay all athletes? Why do those losing the school money (most sports) get paid if they're not making the school money? What about bench players why do they make the same? Is their a salary cap per player/team? What about students that will becoming doctors, politicians, leaders in society outside of sports but weren't blessed with athletic genetics but will become a much larger positive impact on society why are they discriminated for them being mentally blessed not physically?
See this is a slippery slope that the NCAA is teetering on and I wouldn't expect it to change very soon.I get the argument but also the school isn't physically profiting a mass amount of money like people think as like I said most of the programs are losing the school money but things like football that pay insane dividends are able to keep these other programs (baseball, softball, womens basketball, our mens basketball) still operating even if they aren't profiting.

Every college student athlete or not goes to college to prepare for life after and to make a living. Dabo did this at Alabama and the lessons he learned while not getting paid I would say are paying pretty good now in his adult professional life.
The lessons the football players learn under Dabo and well worth their weight not to mention free tuition, books, food, room and board, etc... The smart ones like Boyd brand themselves while athletes and now have great careers after football because of it.
If they are paid, they should receive a salary like all working professionals and have to pay their bills like all adults do. Would work out to be a worse deal.

They already get a free education, free tutoring, better meals, and other allowances. How much is all of that worth. Others have to borrow the money or parents have to endure the costs.

You realize they get a monthly stipend already don't you? They get more if they live off campus. Plus they get education, healthcare, meals, entertainment, clothing and a 100 other things. $4-500 a month when all of your living expenses are paid for is not too bad as a college student, way more than I had. Anyways, guess they always need more because that is what the socialists are always preaching nowadays.

You do realize players get a stipend right? Players on football scholarships get a “return” of like 3k a semester i think. That’s 6 grand a year and 24k over their career, that’s not bad at all plus all the other things that have been said and i believe they are accurately repaid. Remember this isn’t the pros, if you give them a paycheck you’re just going to professionalize the college game and thus increase the gap already set between the top tier schools

The players get a stipend now. Have you not read the article about Christian saving 15,000 while in school.

I used to lean toward giving student athletes some "walking around money."
But, after thinking about it, I concluded it would only go one way. We're right on the edge today of giving free college to everyone. You KNOW how the courts are - the minute you start "paying" athletes, the courts are going to say, "You can't JUST pay THEM - you have to pay ALL students." That's just one step away from making the whole thing - completely free for everybody.
How is this going to be paid for? Isn't our currency practically worthless right now? Do we just print ANOTHER $50-trillion and further devalue the dollar?
Even right now - today - top government and private studies all point to a frightening statistic: Of all those alive in the U.S. today - - a staggering 70-75% are going to die heavily in debt. Not just small to medium debt - but the kind of debt heirs & relatives will not be able to pay off. Imagine 3 out of 4 of us dying - DEAD BROKE. And that's how bad it is TODAY without doing any more damage.
Turning to a brighter spot on the horizon, I'll just say - Go Tigers!!!
