whipping the top 4 or competing head to head with them 3 or 4 years ago but not now. Nil is making it difficult whereas a 5 star player we could get is not being bought to go other places. Maybe hard for these kids to turn down big money.

NiL is making college football not worth watching or messing with . A championship will be nothing more than a bought trophy . If it keeps up people will fall off more and more every year .

The college football landscaping changed and Clemson is trying too. Early returns are concerning.

It’s hard to sale your soul when you are an Elite University whose leadership have character and integrity; Clemson University.
I honestly do not believe Dabo will coach college football 5 more years. Much less 15 years he indicated recently in a press conference.

Our 2 recent Natty years we averaged somewhere around 12th and 10th in recruiting class rankings respectively for the 4 years prior. We've gotten more national attention since and higher class ranks there for a bit but it doesn't seem to have translated as well into production.

No doubt a solid QB is paramount to winning championships, but without the right pieces all over the field on both sides to complement, it's not happening. LSU this year, OK 2x during our run, Louisville - generational QB's without the team hardware to show for it.

I don't think the recruiting class rankings are as much of a problem as some of the top prospects we have landed over the past 3 years aren't playing at a high level .
So I definitely agree it seems we are getting beaten on some recruits, but the ones we have been getting have been getting are misses

I’ve thought player evaluations and development have been off the mark the last 3 years at a higher than normal level. I expect our hit rate to improve with the hiring of legit experienced assistant coaches.

It's definitely fair to say we haven't hit on the same number of recruits these past few years that we were prior to the CFP run. Covid cutting down on in-person visits certainly seems a factor considering our prowess there, and I wonder how much of an impact it's been with more top players throughout the country seeking out Clemson as a destination versus more of the scouting and chasing approach we had to engage in prior to reaching the mountaintop.

Yes. Good point. DJ and WRs underperformed. Our O line never compares to Georgia and Alabama Michigan and Ohio State. Georgia has 20 top players to our 9 this year. They also are successful in the portal. They have no concern for putting a transfer in front of a high school recruit. They are playing with another set of rules from us.

I do agree that our evaluations have not been as good probably due to Streeter and Austin. I’ll have to add our WR coach in that as well.

Blaming NIL is a cop out.

We haven’t had the same caliber of recruiters on staff like we had in the past, but that’s not our biggest problem. Our biggest problem has been player development.
We have plenty of talent, it’s just not being developed.

NIL becomes an issue when it is the recruit’s #1 issue. Lots of top programs can sell family, culture, and education but a top recruit from humble beginnings with a family relying on him makes NIL a problem for those who don’t or won’t step up.
Welcome to the new normal…
