Ok folks
We need to somehow get off officials. They do miss calls. Sometimes at critical times. Make mistakes Just like you do in your job. They do not cause teams to lose. Todays umps didn’t give up 11 runs. They didn’t allow the last inning hits. They didn’t run together and drop a ball. They didn’t get picked off.
I have officiated high school football for 42 years in NC. We are starting this years clinics tomorrow. We have to beg folks to take up officiating. We are to the point that games will have to be played at different times because of lack of officials. The berating that officials are subject to are getting out of hand. I tell coaches at the pregame that we are going to miss calls. I also tell them that the players are going to do boneheaded things. I also tell them they are going to make mistakes. Do you think an official should be able to tell a coach when the coach makes a stupid decision? Why shouldn’t officials be able to go off on a coach when he blows a game? I really don’t think officials should.
Maybe if a few more of you put on the stripes or the mask you would understand how hard it is. Try sometime it encourage someone to do it. Without officials there are no contests.

I have been to hundreds of Clemson baseball games in my life and no game compares to this. Starting in the 2nd inning, it was a clown show. Honest question: did you watch the entire game?

Miss calls? They threw our head coach out, they threw a hall of fame coach out and threw a guy out that was batting over 300. You cannot tell me that doesn’t have an effect on the game. I’m not even talking about the terrible strike zone all day.

It wasn't that bad...Mathes got tossed and Bakich got tossed defending his guy....he was trying to fire up Darden and he ended up blowing. Is what it is.

11runs was the most terrible thing. Yes they should have taken a little more at this time of the season. I do when championships are on the line. In all my years I have only ejected one varsity high school coach. It was last year and he was in the center of the field eating on me. I was the referee. He was ejected because it was his 2nd unsportsmanlike. Early in the season. Was the plate guy consistent? Same for both teams? I didn’t get to watch it all.

I'd agree with you if this was little league, but umpires should still be held accountable. Sure, we all make mistakes at our job sometimes, but when I screw up, I'm held to accountable to my clients, customers, and my boss.

That's not the official's job, but you can bet the coach is held accountable to the fans, boosters, and administrators.

What difference does that make to an official? But when an official blows a game, it can have an effect on the players and coaches. Remember Jim Joyce and what he did to Armando Galarraga? Joyce was held accountable (which is good) and how he handled it was spot on. I'm not saying that what happened today was at that level and I'm not saying the umpires are the reason we lost. But they should accountable and subject to criticism.

I’ve been doing basketball for going on 16 years now, and agree with most of what you’re saying. However, I feel like tonight was more of poor game management than it was play-calling.
Things got escalated several times when a “knock it off and go to your dugout” would have been totally sufficient.
