Powderkeg: With emotions running high, Swinney sends a message
Tensions are already building for Saturday night’s 7:30 p.m. kickoff in a series that has been dominated by Clemson. The Gamecocks won five in a row during the Steve Spurrier era, but the Tigers have won three in a row and have outscored South Carolina 128-56i n those three games. As a result, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has a message for everybody. Full Story » |

One of my main concerns about this game is that we have someone let themself get baited into a fight and we lose a key player for the Miami game. Very important that our players keep their focus. We need to beat the #### out of the game hens. But there are bigger fish to fry down the road.

What racial overtones?? What the hell are they talking about? Why does the race card have to played in any and every situation? Both teams have outstanding black and white players. This is the most ridiculous suggestion I've heard in decades. Racist how? By whom? This suggestion is disgraceful and stupid beyond description, and a gross disservice to both schools. What idiot made this allegation??

It was proved that there were no fans in that section of the stands for anyone to yell. They then changed it to one of our players. Neither team warms up near each other so how could a player say anything where he alleged it was said

The racial thingyy was nothing more than a filter to distract peoples thoughts of the massive beat down the coots just took and couldn't do a thing to stop it other than turning our win into something dirty by using a ghost racist comment thrown out there to try and take away from their embarrassment they were feeling. What better way to do that than making it racial!!! Why would the victors want to put a blemish on, or throw a relief valve on a total embarrassment we just left the coots with. It just don't make sense when being on top of the world, then turning it into something racial and dirty. I don't see any of our players doing something like that in no way shape or form and knowing that something as serious as that would be exposed. If anything at all bc of the super intense emotions, something said was misjudged or taken out of character or context.

I really believe we will beat these guys. However I am very, very concerned the coots or their extremely classless fans will start something, they would love nothing better than to screw us for another Natty! Please Tigers, keep your heads and your focus on executing during the game. If you do that, we WILL leave that ^^^^hole with a WIN and move on to take down Miami.... let them bait you into trouble and it could end the season. GO TIERS!!!

You are correct. But slow down on your posts a little, you don't want to get the dreaded "Post-Ho" title. Once in place that label is tough to shake.

to keep us from bowling and we kicked their buts all over the place. I think Coleman took on half a dozen coots and decked them all. Kelly had a little fun with some coot heads too.

Serious question: Can the home team be penalized for fan behavior like throwing batteries at players coming on the field? Obviously if fans are seen throwing things at refs, police and opposing fans and opposing players, they can be hauled off to jail and banned, but if enough concern is presented can police or officials watch certain areas and warn the home team that certain precautions need to be in place because of past bad behavior and then throw an unsportsmanlike penalty on the home team if a big enough problem is seen. It just seems ridiculous that something can't be done. Can you imagine if Kelly Bryant is hit in the face with an object and might actually be unable to play before the game even starts from an unrelated injury outside of football.

That would help. I think that is what they did last year and no celebrating any touchdowns until they get back to the sidelines. I think something whizzed by Watson a couple of years ago.

That was Cain. After he scored that first long TD where he caught that ball perfectly over his shoulder a Gamecock fan threw a full bottle of water at him while he was standing at the back of the endzone. Just classless fans. Thats why they will never be a great program because they do not know how to act and personally them having a touch of success have made them 2 times worse or in Gamecock lingo "worser".

Let's face it. In Columbia, you are not really dealing with the intellectual elite. You can get into USC if you can spell your name. I completed a Ph.D. there, and we were constantly amazed by the low intellectual level of the undergrads.

The police need to be there in force. A statement from both coaches would help. Haul few thugs off to jail and this will stop. Absurd!

Agreed. The coaches and the police need to make it clear upfront that thuggish behavior will not be tolerated. One or two arrests will put an end to this behavior in a heartbeat.

I can't believe that the coaches or players from either team embrace this type of hateful rhetoric. Who started this, anyway? It's a game, and you can play your best without hating the other team. Lighten up!

There also isn't no reason to bring up the racial "overtones" because one, you have to look at the player that claimed it and two, he was the one on Clemson's side of the field during warmups. So I'll let you take a gander at who you think was trying to start something. Also if you remember he couldn't give any names or numbers and blamed the o-linemen which has the most white boys at the position group even though our DB's said he was over there with them and wasn't near where the o-linemen were warming up. How stupid does it sound that he was screaming the players were being racist so implying our white offensive linemen were making racist remarks apparently while there black Clemson teammates were standing there as well. So I ask you, how much sense does that make? The guy was BAW and I promise you he hasn't ever been confused with someone of any intelligence and I know that sounds mean but its the truth.

It's a big game, but it's still a game. Imo, cap the hype and watch the play. We fans control nothing but words, which effect little when you think about it. Love our team.

It's never a good thing when one or both of the coaches share with their team and the fans the same hatred of each other as the fans and players. Sadly I believe that bc of the way Muschamp has responded and expressed his personal feeling over the loss to Clemson last season in DV, it has invited his team to do what ever it takes to get revenge for his personal embarrassment. And it sounds that Dabo maybe feeling the same where Muschamp and his team is concerned. I'm sure that our team will get a stern warning before leaving the locker room Saturday night, and the coot team will be told not to take anything from the Clemson players before they leave the locker. I feel this bc of a huge character difference in the two men....
