Are some of you seriously upset about DJ getting paid by Dr. Pepper and Bojangles?

That is a legit criticism. But some of these guys complaining about NIL sound like the biggest case of sour grapes ever.

I don’t think ppl are upset that he gets paid by them rather than his focus is more on a check from them than his play on the field. Lots of people suspect players will start to lose passion and effort for the game bc they are already millionaires so the attitude is “I don’t have to bust my A** bc regardless I’m set”.

So 1 bad game equals he more focused on his NIL deals than game prep? He is just a sophomore starting his 3rd game.

I’m not saying he is, I’m saying this is the argument of why ppl are against the NIL rules. There are no rules with it. That’s the problem. Imagine if TL was playing this year, he would probably make 20 million or more…. That’s the problem there is no cap or rules so you can make whatever you want. And this can also lead to influencing recruits.

not really, but once you start getting paid for performance, expect the commentary. I've always been about critiquing coaches for lack for play. Now we have the open market for pay, expect the counter for NOT meeting expectations. There is always a yin with the yang. namaste.

Of course they are. You think players down the depth chart are getting NIL money?

What’s his motivation now if the money is already rolling in for proving NOTHING

Dr Pepper & Bojangles are terrible business models for using unproven CHILDREN/KIDS to promote anything.
NIL ends the entire amateur athlete idea snd forever change college football.
Nobody should be mad at the players, they aren’t the stupid companies paying for images/likeness that aren’t worth the price if the paper the contracts are printed on.
It’s the reality so get used to it, no matter how much I think it sucks for true competition.

NIL has already changed the college game. Young immature players will be driven by "what's in it for me" vs "team" concept.....what can I do to stand out on or off the field of play that will benefit me in the short term. Coaches that can minimize this distraction will win. DJU needs to lose the hat. Do we have a #2QB? If so, last night seemed like a good time to give him a shot.

I just think it’s ridiculous that grown men are on here bitching about Dr. Pepper and Bojangles as if that was the reason DJ didn’t have a good game.

Nope, but the GREEN they supply to these young immature players will ALWAYS play a part in the sport now that it’s a free for all without regulation.
That’s what is sad. This will crush the dreams of a lot of good young athletes because that focus on the sport is circumvented by MONEY.
Pro athletes are men, adults with responsibilities, bills to pay…not young impressionable athletes in college on scholarships, taking classes, many whom are unproven at the college level with little to nothing in the way of bills to pay. Yea, I’d say there is blame to go around everywhere with this set up

So a 22 year old college senior with an NIL deal is less of an adult than a 21 year old NFL rookie?

Stop arguing an invalid construct. Yes, they go to class and are not pros. It looks like he didn't even practice. The team was terrible offensively. So, yes, he gets some blame.

The NIL money breaks the suspension of disbelief that made college football different from the NFL.
Without NIL, it would be easier to get behind DJ as a student who can learn and improve. But now that he's publicly pulling down more money than most fans will ever see in their whole lives--and flaunting it with that ridiculous outfit--you can't pretend he's just a scrappy college kid anymore.
I figured it would take a couple of years for the NIL money to alter how I feel when watching the games, but I was wrong. One weekend of games is all it took.
