Premier Division:
Clemson
FSU
Miami
UNC
Notre Dame

Second Division:
Everyone Else

The regular season champion of the Premier Division is awarded a spot in the CFP.

The second place team in the Premier Division plays the first place team in the Second Division in Charlotte for a spot in the CFP.



The premier division plays a round robin and 4 cross over games. Notre Dame cannot qualify for one of the ACC’s two spots in the CFP unless they join the ACC in full. Notre Dame continues to play 5 ACC games a year in accordance with their current contract so long as they remain partial members.

Add in promotion and relegation.

If a team from the "Second Division" wins a national championship then they are promoted to the Premier Division. While the team from the Premier division that has gone the longest without wining a national championship is relegated to the "Second Division".

Never happening as ND is never officially joining the ACC. They would then forfeit their automatic bid into the playoff.
