Library Reflection Pool??

I've noticed that the Library Reflection Pool's been empty for what seems like a couple of months now.
I see heavy equipment doing some kind of work in it and around it.

Does anybody know what they're doing to it and why? They do empty it normally for a week or so every spring but not for this long.

Yep. My freshman year was '78, but couldn't recall specifically when it happened.

Class of ‘81 here. Yes, it happened when I was there, too, but I’ve slept since then, so exactly when, I do not know! 😉

I saw that. Didn't see it when it was driven in, but saw it in the pool.

Actually that may have legs. I like the reflection pond but split it in 2 and make one side with some slides. Could be fun!

I have it from good sources that the Clemson bass fishing team has prevailed upon President Clements and the Board of Trustees to add some structure and stock the pool with largemouth bass and bream.

These fish will be certified PCB free unlike those in Hartwell.

the middle of the site in early September 1965, during the pool's construction.

A year later, I was tossed into the pond by students after a pep rally in the amphitheater (a tradition of male cheerleaders being thrown into water after rallies,) stepping out with Dean Walter Cox and Coach Howard standing adjacent and laughing. Howard said, "Boy, you bettah not stand sideways, 'cause you's skinny as a toothpick!" There is a photo of that in an old "Taps."

Some years later, I attended a Clemson function in Columbia and ran into both Cox and Howard, and I'll be danged if the first words out of Howard's mouth were, "Boy, you still skinny as a toothpick!" A huge laugh erupted, and I couldn't believe he remembered that episode nearly ten years earlier at the reflection pond.

1969 was the first tractor driven into the pool. I know who did it but I shall take the secret to my grave. He was a fellow football player who had a few too many and took a dare from his fellow drunks to drive the tractor into the pond. A true Clemson Classic prank that will forever live in Tiger lore.
