with THIS simple question, without any other considerations, no qualifications, with no ifs ands or buts. All of those are separate issues that start with establishing a clear position on this one, and should only be addressed once this has been done.

Do we have the right to deport people who are here illegally? The only answers are "yes" or "no".

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

Or is it that these are good people who were justified in breaking our laws?

Or is it that the cost of enforcing these laws is too great and impractical?

Or is it that enforcing these laws will be really difficult for the people who broke our laws as well as their friends and families?

I am truly interested in why people think our laws should not be enforced.

The starting point is whether or not people get due process in this country....

Jun 11, 2025, 8:21 PM

Once we establish that is the case, then we can talk about deporting illegals. I think the order of what needs to be asked & answered is different than your view. I don't have a problem with a country policing its border, or deporting illegals....unless they are breaking the law & violating people's rights in trying to do so.....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's a separate question, and was not the one I asked.

It must be answered before due process becomes a factor. But some people with a powerful bias that clouds their judgement, can't answer a simple question outside of the framework of their chosen narrative.

Your take on the whole LA thing, if I'm correct, boils down to Trump's abuse of power and disregard for due process. I'm not saying or suggesting you are wrong, but a person can answer my question honestly and easily no matter how they feel about Trump or his actions, and without any consideration for what is happening in LA right now. You just aren't willing to do that.

No, due process & respect for people's rights comes first....

If we don't have that, then we can't have deportations, and honestly we don't have a country. Any government that throws people in jail or foreign prisons with no charges of criminality at all does not get to just run around saying they're going to deport people.

Your question is the wrong first question. My question is the better one, and the right place to start.

My question must be answered before your question is even considered.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Due process is a fundamental right - no question. Like all of our basic, constitutionally recognized rights, it's always in play. It's a given. So in that sense, you're correct; that comes "first". I agree 100%.

AS such, no law starts out with acknowledging that as part of that particular law. For instance, the law against illegal border crossing does not start with

"First, let's understand that all people have the right to due process. Once we understand that and that right is not violated, it shall be illegal to enter our country without meeting certain requirements".

No law is written that way. No law starts that way.

In this case, today in 2025, some people's rights to due process are probably being violated. That's wrong, and should by all means be addressed. In no way am I even remotely suggesting that it should not, and it's crucial that we have that conversation. That does not change the fact however, that it is an entirely separate issue than whether or not people who are here illegally (which assumes due process has been obseved) should be deported, nor does it mean that those two issues can't be or shouldn't be discussed sparately. You are simply wrong if you can't accept that.

Some would say that in some cases due process would overload the system and we aren't set up for it. It seems in some cases they should just go.

Your question is meaningless without first answering my question....

Jun 12, 2025, 8:33 PM [ in reply to We are talking around each other here; I'll try to do better. ]

Without respect for basic human rights - speech, due process, etc - your question has absolutely no meaning in this country. People's rights are not "probably" being violated. They absolutely are being violated. That is a known fact, at this point.

You have the wrong beginning question. My question is more important, and must be answered first. Only then, do we even think of your question.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No it's not.

Jun 13, 2025, 8:34 AM

The process is to determine whether or not a person is here illegally, and my question assumes that has already been done:

Do we have the right to deport people who are here illegally?

See?

Here's the difference: My question is not biased in favor of one political side or the other or designed to push any side's agenda, but you made it just that because you can't see things any other way. It was an attempt by me to keep partisanship out of it.

Yes is the answer!

But since we already know that the constitution isn’t being followed right now you are getting answers that are elaborations on your request for just yes or no. We need illegal immigrants for our workforce because we don’t have the # of workers here in Merica that are able and/or willing to do all the jobs. Also the huge # of boomers are retiring or dying leaving a bigger gap in the workforce. Taco said he was deporting all the illegals. However, he SHOULD know that would be bad for our economy IF he actually did this.

2025 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's the wrong approach entirely.

Jun 12, 2025, 9:50 AM

If we need more workers, the answer isn't to continue to ignore the law and encourage people to keep breaking it. I really can't believe people even think that is any kind of solution; it's alarming that we have people who think that way.

If that is the case, the obvious solution is to fix our broken system so we can get the workers we need efficiently and legally. The excuses people make for that instead of fixing it is amazing. The open borders we have seen in recent years are absolutely insane and are a threat to our sovereignty and is in no kind of solution.

My point in all of this is that we have to agree that there is a problem with our immigration system, and then find some common ground as a starting point before we can fix it. To me it seems that starting place is acknowledgement that borders are necessary, and we have the right to control them, determining who gets in and who can stay and who has to go. All of that can be done legally and humanely, and that should be the goal; not protecting a partisan political agenda.
