How much longer will the Republican Party exist

Over the past decade the Republican Party has descended. It has devolved to the point that the major candidate is a convict and more, that gerrymandering only barely allows it control of the USHouse, that introduces frivolous laws making illegal activities illegal, that supports one of our nation’s enemies (Russia), that justifies NOT protecting and defending our Constitution, that has allowed itself to be a subsidiary of a political campaign … and there is more.

State parties … maybe all state parties … may survive but the national party is almost gone now.

Once President Harris has become reality what will exist that can be carried forward? Trump, of course, will announce for re-election 2028 as soon as he can do so. That will keep money coming in …. but even that may not work.

I say the National Republican Party closes in 2025 … it will not see 2026. When do any/all of you folks expect it to disband, to cease existing?

You really need to get out more. You still hanging on to your prediction that Trump will only win 5 states?

I'm not sold on him winning. It's a coin toss, but Trump will win more states than he won in 2020 and the Pubs will be around after Trump is out of the picture regardless of how 2024 turns out.

Whether the convict wins five or more states, the party money is going to him. After he announces for 2028, that money flow - to him - will continue. Are you saying the Republican Party will not need money, that it will continue on without out money?

As a lifetime Republican I don't think I'd care one iota if the national party disbanded and started all over. It's not like they are effective at doing their job or representing their constituents. Parties re-align and change over time. I don't know if the "Republicans" are going to continue to exist, but we won't go one-party. Originally our two parties were the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans...the first wanted a strong central government, the other wanted more states' rights and a limited Federal government. The Federalists declined until the 1820's and were replaced by the Whigs, the Democratic-Republicans eventually became just the Democrats. The Whigs collapsed right before the Civil War - the party disintegrated over the issue of slavery - and was replaced by the Republicans. At that point the Republicans would have been considered more leftist - they were progressives, and in favor of a larger central government - whereas the Dems were conservatives in favor of states' rights.

The two parties basically traded alignments in the 1960's...this time, over civil rights. The Southern "Dixiecrats" left the Democrat Party and joined the GOP, and the Democrats started soaking up disaffected black voters, and within a decade it was the GOP who were espousing more conservative views and the Dems who were liberal progressives.

So even if the GOP were to vanish tomorrow, some new conservative party will arise in its place. Truthfully I wonder if the parties are about to trade polarities again...what we're seeing, increasingly, is genuine conservatives are being drummed out of the GOP, and Trump has essentially turned the GOP into a blue-collar working-class party...and you're seeing people like Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Michael Steele, and any number of disaffected Never Trumpers associating openly with the Dems. If there's not a way back into the GOP - and I don't know that there is - they'll stay there...and I think we'll continue to see the bleed-over of union labor to the GOP side. And by 2035 the parties will likely look very different than they do today.

Just how it goes.

Hey, big time thanks for your mature response.

I expect a newly labeled Conservative Party to emerge. I know little about organizing a party, but I understand money’s connection to politics, and right now the money that folks contribute to the Republican Party is going to Trump. Even if he is again our President, the party money flowing to him will necessarily end or the party dies … or so I think. Party ends … maybe in 2025 (my prediction), maybe later.

Thanks again …

I’m hoping the GOP doesn’t disband. I hope they get back to having sensible candidates.

Would be nice if we had folks like Reagan Bush, Bush, Romney, Paul Ryan even tricky diick Richard Nixon. Nixon quickly had the decency and ethics to say “OK, my bad, I’ll leave”.

But with our primary system, a politician has to be far left or far right to win, hence we end up with Marjorie Taylor Green. She is a dumb POS. Not much other way to describe her. She is trailer trash and she has very little understanding of what is going on in the world around her. I wouldn’t hire her to wash my car to say nothing of being a US rep.

Would love to see my Republican party become great again by getting rid of all these maga scumbags.

Only reason Trump was able to rise to power was the complete abdication of GOP leaderships responsibility to represent its constituents. Trump ran on one issue, illegal immigration, the same issue DC Republicans only pretended to care about come election season for the last few decades. Then once elected they'd go right back to ignoring it. Their voters finally got tired of the lip service and looked outside the party. Many voted for Trump as a protest vote against those same out of touch leaders, never expecting him to actually get elected. Then they watched the swamp, including many of those POS Republicans lauded in this thread, circle the wagons and do everything it it's power to prevent him from achieving his campaign promises. The same promises (securing the border) the majority of Americans support, all while pretending it's Trump who's a traitor to the country and playing footsie with Putin based on a bunch of what we now know to be lies fabricated and paid for by Hillary Clinton, a piece of white trash if there ever was one. Now these same die hard, just love America Republicans are out endorsing every Democrat they can find while the board morons jerk each other off with fantasies of these fine people taking the party back over and returning to power. Nah nothing strange about any of that at all.

Looking at how close this race was when it should have been an absolute blowout, I’d say the demographic replacement is going well for the democrats and the Republicans aren’t tough enough to reverse it. I think JD Vance will be competitive but won’t win, and after about 12 years or so the Republican Party will be at a point where it never competes nationally again.
