Last play of regulation, did Chase go rogue?

We’ve seen where Cade goes rogue and does something other than the play that was called. Did Chase do his own thing or is that the best our 15yr winningest coach could come up with?
I understand not calling a timeout bc we would then have to inbound the ball and that can be a challenge as well.

I assumed we didn’t want to give Memphis any opportunity to somehow get a turnover and score. Let Chase take the game-winner with worst case being overtime. Either way, we let that game slip away. Memphis is a great team but probably one too many mistakes today. Bounce back on Tuesday!

chucking up a rushed 3 vs driving and better chance of getting a shot at the FT line. Totally get that logic. LMAO

I didn't think we shot 80%, so actually good in that aspect. Just got killed by the 3 . . that can be controlled by D.

It was a good strategy, one used by Brad and many other coaches, with the game tied at the end of regulation. It was just very poorly executed by Chase.
The strategy is this: If the shot clock is off, spread out the offense and let your guard go one on one with his defender. Don’t call a timeout because, even though it may allow you to design a play, it also allows the defense to bring in the personnel it wants and to design a play of its own.
Then at about the 7 second mark, the guard drives the lane. One of two things might happen. The defense will collapse on the guard leaving one or more open teammates to dish off for a layup, or the guard lays up a shot or pulls up for a short jumper, leaving time for maybe a tip in on a miss.
But you need 6 or 7 seconds. Chase was at midcourt at 4.0 seconds when he made his move, and actually didn’t really move towards the basket until about 3.4 seconds. Not enough time. He had to throw up a prayer.
