I hope we take two. I like taking Green as he is worth an offer but the fact is he had no other P-5 offers. So taking two lightly recruited guys mitigates the risk. I am hoping JG like williams is a baller

Think McFly
Dec 9, 2022, 7:03 PM
[ in reply to Re: TNET: Instate standout RB picks up Clemson offer ] |
|
Look at the kid's stars.. if you'll notice he put up half of his 4 year total this year. This should clue you in that he probably, A. Was a late bloomer B. Was not the feature back until 2022 C. May have had injuries up to this year
Therefore, he is not on the radar of many of top tier schools who may already have their spots filled and don't need to waste time. If you think back a few years there was this kid from Grayson HS GA. Nobody recruited him to play RB, if I remember correctly. Either way didn't have a ton of offers. I think everyone would agree Wayne Gallman blew expectations out of the water. 3400 yd, 34 TD in 3 years.
Another one was this kid from Louisiana. We swung and missed on others, got in late. He wasn't on anyone's radar until his senior year. Travis Etienne put up almost 5000 yards rushing 70 TDs over 1100 rec yd 8 TD.
I don't understand how anyone could say our staff misses on very few evaluations. So many guys that our staff saw something no one else did. Gallman, Ryan Carter, Adam Humpries, Nolan Turner, Hunter Renfrow, James Skalski, the Spector Boys, Ruke, the Venables Boys. So who gives a rip about a short offer sheet.

No reason not to take 2 if we can get them, but JStone is right. They will both probably be development guys. Hearing lots of good stuff about Green and I’m still really hopeful about Keith Adams Jr. I think we’re ok on backups. Need a feature back or maybe 2 in the 2024 cycle.

My first thought last season was maybe grades as the reason he wasn't picking up the big offers... Didn't seem to make sense, and still doesn't. I remember in 2020 he was making big plays as a sophomore. He's steadily improved each season.
Oh yeah, he fumbles a ton. Can't hold onto the ball. 625 touches 525 running 100 receiving. Lost the handle once each season. 3/625 = give me the rock coach.
BTW- not a bad bball player either. Lol

Like this for various reasons.
One, it’s obvious we aren’t getting a top ranked back until next year. This kid and the kid from Alabama will make a very nice haul.
This kid WANTS to be a Tiger. Oh….and it’s a great feeder school

Program like ours cant recruit a running back in the last two years. We have to steal one from James Madison. Nobody in the portal? Same with receiver for that matter and the last minute fall back there.

The reason can't recruit a RB is because our running backs share the ball among 3 guys most of the time. As soon as one guy gets a couple carries and a rhythm they pull him out for the next guy. I understand trying to keep the guys fresh but if you are going to run the ball you need a featured back and only spell him when he needs a breather or the game is out of hand. I think this is why we have trouble.

This year. There were times I thought ship could use a breather and they kept rolling him out there. I agree though. In the past it would seem like we had guys in a rhythm and would just pull them.

Last year yes. This year no. There is a decent chance that Shipley moves on after next year. These kids understand that nearly anywhere they go that they are going to have to wait some. We'll see how things shake out this year, but our current backs aren't pushing recruits away at this point.

The reason we struggle is that for 2 years, we have had one of the most predictable offenses in the country. If we went back and looked at how many times we ran up the middle on 1st down and correspondingly how many second and longs we had, it would be striking. Teams were expecting it. We refused to stretch the field because they didn’t feel comfortable with DJ and this led to the safeties coming up and making it even more difficult to run. Our running game improved when Cade went in and I guarantee that our running game will improve even more in the Orange Bowl. What I can’t understand is why we didn’t stay with the creativity that we showed in the FSU game.

Tell that to GA who stacks talent on talent. We lost a plan D RB to them who was their #2 RB spot behind a 5* they already had committed. Quit using this lame excuse. Look at the DL recruiting. We stack talent on talent. QB recruiting is Very good. RB and WR is hurting with the current position coaches. We’ll see what we can do in 2024 class.

That is a short-sighted response. See comments from Whitehurst74 above. This has been out MO for using running backs forever. Even Spiller and Davis. We just don’t feature one back here and really never have.

Initial thoughts:
Good, not great. Didn’t see him break a lot of tackles. Saw a lot of gaping holes that he ran though. The biggest thing I noticed is that he lacks elite speed. He’s just not very fast.
Then I checked his size. He’s listed at 5’9 and 185.
So, he’s a smaller RB that lacks speed. Now we know why he doesn’t have more P5 offers. They don’t view Jarvis as someone with a high ceiling.
But I’m glad we offered nonetheless. The weight room will be his best friend. Glad that he wants to be a Clemson tiger. This kid is probably going to be a great locker room guy instantly. He’ll probably be a really hard worker as well. And he’ll need to be in order to be an impact for us. Looks like we’re going to take two developmental guys this year. Really just need one of them to work out.

That's something I noticed as well, he seems to have great balance. Whenever a tackler would just hit him he'd take it and keep running, you have to really wrap him up to tackle him, a shoulder wasn't going to get him down.
I think he'll be good after a season of being on campus, learning and hitting the weight room.

I saw the same thing. In a way he reminds me of Mikey Dukes, whom I also wanted to come here. I think he may be a solid back-up type player who could turn out to be better than we think. I know kinds pick up a lot of additional strength when they get in a weight program, and maybe a little more quickness or speed, but I think speed is something you have or you don't.

Agree on the speed 100%. Googled it and Hudl had him listed as 4.43. Impossible. He's a 4.6 type guy. He's the #87 back in the country per ESPN. Spin it anyway you wish. We can hark back and tell the Terry Allen story - he could develop like Terry. Rather just go get a Tim Worley and a Nick Chubb. Whatever. It will be a glaring hole if anyone goes down. If not, we can skate by another season.

There’s no way he runs a 4.43
There’s plenty of clips of kids running with him/catching up to him. There’s not that many kids running that fast in high school.
