Just a curious question for everyone

Some of the posts here sometimes makes me wander what this person must do for work in real life. For anyone willing to answer; what do you do? Like your occupation
No need to get specific but generally is fine. We’re all family here, with our squabbles from time to time, but hey we’re all Tigers right?
I’m happy to go 1st. I have a law firm and teach law at 1 of the hippy dippy local colleges

That’s why I was not specific. I live in the area and been in business a long time. I honestly have a very good reputation. I don’t think I want it trashed on this forum. I’m thinking of a couple posters. lol.

2 things I don't do - 1) street view photos from the house. 2) get too specific about my profession.
Too many crazies out there.

This board has been littered with nuts like that who try to look up more of your information if you give them too much. They only learn to quit when you throw it back at them.

I wasn't around during the time, but apparently someone almost got kicked out of medical school because of something he shared on this site. And it didn't seem like that big of a deal. I've met a few Joungers, and I certainly don't mind talking about personal stuff with people I meet in person, but there are some weird ### lurkers out there - no thanks.

I also remember someone getting the Secret Service called on them. I remember a guy having his boss contacted for something he said in TAC (which wasn't that bad, either). I remember someone who worked in the military threatening to have someone investigated for his anti-Iraq war views. I've had my own personal stuff brought up here and it's stuff I haven't shared on this site. And the people who did it thought it was a real laugh... until I had to show them I was capable of it as well if pushed to do so. I don't like doing that and I don't care to dig into people's backgrounds, but if they FAFO, I'll do it. Even then I'll take it to TMail instead of posting it on here.
Almost always the people who engage in this behavior are of the far-right Trump variety. Not all the time, but usually.
It takes a real POS to go looking to dig up someone's personal information simply because you don't like their opinion.

I grind it out as an Engineer working in operations in the electrical power generation industry. Unique position of working with blue and white collar team members ranging from entry level operators all the way up to division directors/ senior plant management.
Typical daily work involves repetitively providing answers or direction to the following regardless of the color of the collar. This issue came up, how do we address, or can we do this?

Sounds like you have a solid base already so I say go for it. I sensed the caution in your last statement. It’s a little scary but what the heck. I absolutely do not consider myself a business guru but I have started , grown and sold 3 small businesses. When I was younger an old successful business man told me to do 2 things and I would never lack customers. I waited for some ground shattering imparting of knowledge. He said “ do what you said you were going to do and call people back promptly”. I said “that’s it?” He said “yep that’s it”. I’m sure I know nothing about the kind of business you’re starting but I promise you that old man was right! Just do it.

I have done it 2 times. If you have at least 1 steady client, you are golden and can build up slowly. Might as well try it while you're young, cause you only get so many mulligans and eventually spend your time filling your nest egg fro retirement. I was 27 the first time I went off on my own.
it can be extremely stressful when you have a slow quarter and mouths to feed. The freedom is amazing, the sleepless nights, not so much. When you are shelling out 3-5k a month of your money to hold onto staff, you understand what small business owners go through, and gain a lot of respect for the ones that keep going.

Are you doing the old school b&b where you actually serve breakfast or vacation rental? Reason I ask is we have a rental currently occupied by a longer term renter. They’ve been there a year but will move out within 6 months. We’re trying to decide whether to rent short term or find another more permanent renter. We only have the one rental property so I’m no expert in it.

Keeping it sorta vague but I'm out in South Dakota now and I was in Detroit and Toledo before that, anybody wants to try to track me down, be my guest. I'll probably be in Wyoming or Maine by the time you get here. By day I'm a tech writer, spec writer, tech consultant, and researcher. (I think the fancified term I've heard for it is "geotech analyst." Sounds wonderful to me, probably cooler than it actually is. No, I'm not a tech geek, see. I am a geotech analyst. It's all in the marketing.) Been pivoting into AI and energy futurism lately, seems like it's all anybody wants to consult about, actually, which basically translates into helping people decide between FOBO and FOMO. (What is this crazy sh!t I've never heard of and how is my competition going to beat me over the head with it? Which one of the thirty newfangled companies with maybe two-year track records that make some version this new gizmo I've never heard of do we actually go with? What exactly do we buy? Is there going to be something better fifteen minutes after I install this stuff...especially because a lot of it has as long as eighteen-month wait times before delivery? HALP!!!!)
By night I fight crime.
