The person arrested is an Egyptian here illegally as he overstayed his visa. He attacked people ages 67-88, including a Holocaust survivor. These people were advocating for the release of the hostages held by Hamas and have been doing so for months by peacefully marching.
Mohamad Soliman chanted "Free Palestine" during the attack.
NBC labeled the victims as "Gaza hostage awareness marchers."
Colorado Public Radio News--"Multiple people burned in attack on Boulder's Pearl Street Mall"
This was a hate crime targeting Jews

Calling them Gaza Hostage Awareness Marchers isn’t sanitizing. It’s basically what the groups call themselves. They say fo not protest, just walk or run the course with the tee shirts to raise awareness. There’s a group in Greenville, all are welcome.

The arrested person told federal investigators that he had been planning the attack for over a year and that he wanted to "kill all the Zionist people and wished they were all dead."
While it is true that all are welcome to walk/run to support the hostages in Gaza, and it is true that this is what these individuals were doing, this ####### was targeting Jews.
The CPR News headline from yesterday was accurate- Multiple people burned in attack on Boulder's Pearl Street Mall, but certainly didn't tell the full story.
NBC calling the victims Gaza Hostage Awareness Marchers was accurate. It would have been even more accurate to have called them Run for Their Lives members, but it would have been much more accurate by telling the whole story that this man was targeting Jews.
I'll stick to sanitizing or lazy journalism since the man was heard yelling antisemitic statements at the time of the attack.
