If you read between the lines, Herbstreit thinks the ACC is

Jul 1, 2022, 1:22 PM

toast ...

2 Super Conferences like AFC/NFC

Would you rather Clemson be in the SEC or B10 ?

I mean, what avenue is there for the ACC at this point?

Jul 1, 2022, 1:26 PM

Notre Dame isnt coming and no one else available makes the league relevant. I think Clemson, FSU, maybe Miami get absorbed into the super conferences, GOR be ######.....guess we'll see how it shakes out.

Nothing the lawyers and $ can’t fix (get out of the ACC).

Even if we had to pay buyout, and SEC did not pay part of it, we would recoup the money in a few short years.

I hope that you are right. I have been hesitant to think that we should move, but the ACC seems to be a sinking ship.

It's over for the ACC, Big 12 and PAC 12

Jul 1, 2022, 1:28 PM

Outside the Big 10 and SEC they're just fighting to see who's the tallest midget.

Yep. This is all about ESPN (SEC) vs. FOX (B1G) and the ACC is just going to be a little appetizer on ESPN for the main course.

Honestly...

Jul 1, 2022, 2:38 PM

None of this gets me more excited about college football or college sports. We already have pro sports in this country and I can't stand them. Maybe some of you are excited about NIL, transfer portals and new conferences. Not me! I feel like I'm being driven further and further away from something I have enjoyed most of my life. I like the traditions that align with conferences. I miss the concept of student athletes.
This all reminds me of the death of NASCAR. Keep meddling until no one even cares about the sport anymore.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think CFB, the game I love the most, will be virtually dead in 5 years. It's what, 2k per weekend now for a family of four to attend a game in the LDR section with parking etc?

What's really going to turn people away is 17-18 yo kids whov'e never passed a ball worth 5 million. That's more than most make in a lifetime. What about the center snapping the ball and the LT who has said 18yo millionaire's back going to think? My guess is they don't block as well.

Columbia is a good example. They are already around 50-55k actual attendance, down from 80k. People will not pay for this. I'm not a big NFL guy, but if I want to watch paid professionals - that's what I'll watch. Blame the NCAA...

Agree. No oversight at all in college football. What was once called cheating to get an unfair advantage is now encouraged by wealthy people who have found college football is a great way to make a lot of money.

The mindset began with youth sports when parents began funding 100K salaries for soccer coaches and league organizers were raking in much more. Now they all battle for the same kids and award “scholarships” to the best athletes while letting the others pay the bill.

Agree. Another pro league is being created where all we hear about is money, money, money. No news to be heard about the players as people and the loyal fans. Much higher ticket prices and many fine programs will fold.

It's long past time we went to SEC. I have no idea why so many of you cling to the ACC like you do.

Re: If you read between the lines, Herbstreit thinks the ACC is

Jul 3, 2022, 1:54 AM [ in reply to Re: If you read between the lines, Herbstreit thinks the ACC is ]

You are losing sight of the concern. I love Clemson and the game that was CFB. CFB will cease to exist long term if this happens. It may take some time, but this game depended on a national audience from schools that were involved in the sport. If Clemson is left out of this shake up, are any of us watching CFB. Nope! I may not even watch if Clemson joins one of the super conferences. None of the 60 other schools that are left out fans will watch either. This is a bad business model and I blame the SEC and ESPN.

I'll pass on the gas

Jul 2, 2022, 11:05 AM

Things started to change in CFB when coaches salaries went through the roof. A high end coach makes 7-10 million now. That's too much

When Muschamp can make 4 million per year/have a losing record/get paid 15 million to be fired and then allowed to take another job, the whole system needs a major overhaul.

conferences but we have no choice. SEC is where we have to be with the geography and all the away games being easier to drive to.

That didn’t seem to matter for USC and UCLA. Hahaha, that might be the worst match we've ever seen for realignment. Imagine Penn State playing UCLA for a conference game in girls basketball

Re: I'll pass on the gas

Jul 3, 2022, 9:46 AM [ in reply to I'll pass on the gas ]

Sounds like you’ll pass on the gas to your friends and neighbors there in Greenville and they’ll thank me for it.

I don’t have a problem with great coaches making big money, but guys like Herbstreit make big bucks and they just ramble on and on. That’d be fine if they were always correct with their ramblings, but if you follow the game you’ll find that he says a bunch of things that are just untrue. That qualifies as a blow hard. Talking heads mean little to me and I often just turn the sound down and watch the line of scrimmage and then follow the ball on the replay.

Re: If you read between the lines, Herbstreit thinks the ACC is

Jul 3, 2022, 1:42 AM

Honestly, I am going to be faced with a moral question if these super conferences happen. Even if Clemson is in one of them. At this point I would lean towards tuning out to give these people the finger for their severe greed that would have destroyed the sport we love as well as possibly other college sports across the country. Thank you SEC. You are straight up trash.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: If you read between the lines, Herbstreit thinks the ACC is

Jul 3, 2022, 9:07 AM

I happen to agree with Herbstreit but for different reasons..First, we drag along the ACC network negotiations with ESPN for so long we sign a deal that is no longer lucrative for the schools by comparison and to make that even worse, (secondly) the dumb deal was signed into 2030 something. Who signs a long term deal for a third of the current contracts with B1G or SEC. A short term deal with incentives would have been much better for the ACC and room for new negotiations.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I honestly don't care that much.

Jul 3, 2022, 9:50 AM

Aside from the travel, I think it might be more interesting to be the southern team in the Big Ten rather than just one more in the SEC footprint. We probably fit in better with the SEC though and most of our rivals are likely to be in the conference - two of biggest already are.
