Basically the US produced more energy than it consumed even though we still imported from Canada and Russia. We could sell our oil for more than we could buy it therefore economics say to use cheaper oil and sell the higher revenue oil. That said, while not technically energy independent, we could have been easily since we had a net production of more than consumed.
We surely were not reliant on Saudi and Iranian oil like we have been under Biden. Hence Biden going to Saudi begging for price reductions which basically failed and then Biden releasing the National Oil Reserve to keep prices tolerable. We are currently far from producing a net energy independence and only produce a surplus in Natural Gas currently.

The US currently produces more oil and natural gas than it ever has before.
It happened under both Trump and Biden, even though they had different philosophies and ideologies.

Tigerbigbass - u realize Trump asked Saudi to cut production / raise oil prices to help us oil majors? Hello earth to free market? Do u hear us?
Saudi, Russia, OPEC nothing but a rigged corrupt cartel, far from free market and Trump get involved w them to raise global oil prices.

Releasing more CO2 than they are consuming for the first time ever accelerating global warming.
I studied this at Clemson of all places, so fire away with your “Facebook” science.

Couldn’t agree more.
Have to find a more sustainable way because the climate can’t tolerate the increasing strain we continue to put it under.

It’s a lot easier to just listen to whatever the person in the party you like says, than it is to do the leg work and research and learn things the old fashioned way.
It’s stinks that the uneducated seem to be the leading voices lately more than the educated.

Read an article yesterday I think in the Science Mag, but they are studying the lack of Whale Poo being deposited in the ocean. Since the Idustrial Revolution, there are 4.5mil fewer whales and the typical whale desposited on average a 55gal drum of poo daily. The nutrients from this fed the oceans phytoplankton that reduces the CO2 many times more than the worlds forests. They referenced 1 whale would produce enough nutrients to feed enough phytoplankton to equal many Oak trees.
So of course the organization is dumping a poo concoction to see if it can cause phyto blooms and the first tests have been promising. I think they are doing this in a smaller controlled area of the Tasman Sea.
This made me wonder if we could use the surplus manure production from pig and cow farms and reduce the methane produced from methane off-gassing.
I'm definitely not a tree-hugger but I do have an Enviro degree and I try to stay aware.

You people never cease to amaze me. Gretta Dumberg must be your folk hero, the Joan of Arc of the anarchist who want life to end as we know it.
You wail about how our weather is the most sever ever to be seen and experienced by mankind. You say the storms are much more severe by how much damage they cause. Ok step back and take a deep breath if you dare. Storms cause more damage now because there is a #ellava lot more stuff now to be damaged than in the past. What sane person would invest millions in a home twenty feet from the ocean?
I have researched every piece of data that I could concerning weather patterns. Guess what weather changes, it never has been a constant but a variable. This is caused primarily by sun cycles and gool ole terra firma wobbling on its axis. Now something else noteworthy is that all of the little green bushes, trees, grasses and shrubs etc. love carbon dioxide (CO2).Through this little process called photosynthesis they somehow by accident I am sure produce oxygen (O2). Shezam guess who needs oxygen we do and a lot of other creatures.
Oh, and this idea of putting pig and cow poo in the ocean is not needed. Enough raw sewage flows into the oceans from India, China, Africa and a lot of other S### hole countries to replace every whale that has ever lived.

Are you talking about Miss Blah-Blah-Blah? I hate her. Like I said, Not a Tree Hugger but definitely concerned how this Terra can handle many more billions of people. Without some management as population grows, our youth could find themselves in some tipping point without some environmental awareness.

We shouldn’t use “independence” to mean independent, because we have never been independent. Well ya you dummy, that’s why the term “net exporter” exists.

You can find the political tools (pawns) really quickly in a group of people by bringing up "energy independence".
Don't take any investment advice from people that think that the occupant of the White House controls this.
